WRR aircheck -- May 1934

That's pretty cool to find a recording like that in that kind of condition. Unfortunately, the audio files on the page are in RealAudio format, so you can't play them in something like iTunes or Windows Media Player.

Addendum: You CAN play the files in VLC media player, a freeware open-source media player that plays a whole bunch of different file formats.

Listening to the files, they are remarkably free of scratches and static. The RealAudio compression scheme, however, takes away a lot of clarity and muddies up the file a bit. But it's still fascinating to listen.

What a shame this is real audio format. Never again will I have RealPlayer software on any system I own. Installs its own browser, tries to take over playing every format, then says it can't play some of them without a software update, then says no software update available. They can burn in hell.

Anyone got an MP3 of the WRR broadcast?

I get video and audio formats of many formats at work. VLC plays most of them. Generally, if VLC won't play it, neither will Quicktime or Windows Media Player. I, like Frank, will not install Real Player, but VLC will play every Real file I've tried to play.

About the only files I've had trouble with are some proprietary formats such as some private security videos.
