WRR/Classical 101.1 Problems

I experienced this from North Ft Worth to Lewisville this morning. Technical Difficulties with transmission

We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with our transmission and are broadcasting from our backup's backup. If you're experiencing an overwhelming amount of static or no signal at all please be patient as we rectify this issue or plug a pair of headphones or speakers into your computer and try streaming us. Here's the link.

Thanks again for your patience,

WRR

That fairgrounds tower was shortened several years ago and I haven't noticed an FM bay on it in a long time.

It sure could use a new coat of paint though! But with the city building fantasy bridges over ditches, don't hold your breath!

I believe they do have SOME sort of backup at fair park, but they hate using it. Not sure what their technical problems are.

How severely is the signal affected?

When I drive to Oklahoma, WRR's signal carries at least to the Texas-Oklahoma border on I-35 and perhaps even a little farther.

Pretty affected Tony.

Im in the North Ft Worth Area and its basically static on this boombox. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...-s350&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1099394396452.

It must have taken a big hit cause I havent tried on a car radio yet but a house radio, its a no go.

Wow!

I often drive with WRR in the background. I think it calms me and helps me drive more carefully. Of course, here in north Dallas, the signal sounds fine.

By the way, can dual-deck cassette players be found anywhere these days?

"...or no signal at all..." ??? Good Lord; who wrote that?

Sony TC-WE305 is a dual-cassette component unit normally found at Fry's, around $95. Bought mine (same unit) at the Sears outlet four or so years ago for about $57. Not the usual Sony quality, but it does work. BTW, good luck these days finding ANY cassette deck that has separate L-R input controls. Hell, good luck finding a cassette deck! I still want one for my car. CD's are great, but I won't live long enough to get every single thing I have on cassette converted over to CD. Now I did have one cool thing...both my 2000 Xterra (God rest its soul) and my 2002 Xterra had a factory, in-dash CD AND cassette unit. It was a double-DIN setup, so at least there were options for aftermarket if I wanted. Not so on my Mazda3--all cutely integrated into the dash with no possibility of removal/replacement. HOWEVER...I'm mounting a separate, in-dash AM-FM-HD-MP3 unit in the glove compartment, and have a separate XM controller that will go in the mix. Surely to God between 12 AM presets, 24 FM presets, the HD channels, 168 channels of satellite, and the ability to play normal CDs AND mp3's and wav's, I can find SOMETHING I want to listen to.

Perhaps the same person who used to read the announcement that "Channel (x) is currently off the air." (Ya know, if a tower falls in the forest...)

Or anything else! What is the deal with that? <rhetorical> I bought a JVC dual cassette deck a few years ago and was shocked that I couldn't adjust the L -R input individually. I still have a couple of open reel decks, and I'm used to being able to control left and right output, let alone input!

I don't mean to hijack the thread so, back on topic. I hope that they get their problem fixed. I listened to WRR's "Caroling at the Adolphus" program, weak but readable, one year on I-35 beginning at about the Arbuckle mountain area of Oklahoma.

Yes, heading north on I-35 into Oklahoma, the Arbuckle mountains are exactly where WRR's signal begins to disappear ... with full power of course. And my present car has just a lousy built-in back window antenna.

For some reason, I cannot recall how other DFW stations carry into Oklahoma except for KZPS which could be heard a little fruther. Then KZPS and the Oklahoma City oldies station, KOMA-FM, begin to fight for the frequency. A lot of my friends from my WKY days in the '70's are still on the air after all these years on KOMA.

A few years ago, I drove to Lawton, Oklahoma and traveled through Wichita Falls. KPLX was clear ... and loud ... in Wichita Falls that day. Then the signal faded about 20 miles out of Wichita Falls. As I recall, it was the only DFW station I could hear in Wichita Falls.

The rimshots from the northwest can easily be heard in Wichita Falls. KNOR 93.7, KPMZ 96.7, KBOC 98.3, KFZO 99.1's CP, KTCY 101.7, and KZZA 106.7 broadcast from sites in Wise Co equally distanced from Wichita Falls and downtown Dallas.

The distance from Wichita Falls and Lawton to the Cedar Hill facilities allows the Cedar Hill FMs to be blocked by co-channels or first adjacent FMs: KZCD 94.1 Lawton, KOLI 94.9 Electra/Wichita Falls, KXXN 96.3 Iowa Park/Wichita Falls, KKEN 97.1 Duncan OK, KJMZ 97.9 Cache/Lawton, the future KZAM 98.7 Pleasant Valley/Wichita Falls, KBZQ 99.5 Lawton, KWFB 100.9 Holliday/Wichita Falls, KWFS-FM 102.3 Wichita Falls, KQXC-FM 103.9 Wichita Falls, KYYI 104.7 Burkburnett/Wichita Falls, KBZS 106.3 Wichita Falls, KVRW 107.3 Lawton/Wichita Falls.
