WRSV 92 has fired all its airstaff

ENCSPY I think Paul is a good programmer..He is simply trying to serve too wide of an audience....You can't serve a 15 years old hip-hop fan and a 55 year old old school fan on the same station...Being in Eastern NC you don't benefit from a syndicated morning show either........Or you localize the hell out of that syndicated morning show taking every available second to give local info that's given to you in local avails......I believe Foxy has Tom Joyner..Power should go the opposite way and be live and local in the morning and at every turn tell your audience that you are live and local...But...I do understand it could be a budget issue as well....

yeah...I apologize if I sounds like I am talking bad about paul in any way, for a urban AC he does well and back when he was on RSV he did good as well,...I agree with you on having to serve such a wide audience in ENC, if he focuses on just one or the other...power can really become a monster urban or urban AC in ENC....the issue with foxy is that Tom Joyner is such a strong influence in urban AC that a lot of stations will not drop him for nothing, back in the day foxy had Cy Young in the mornings..and before that Cy was on K97.5 if I remember correctly...power having steve harvey is a plus and its probably helping their numbers (I personally prefer steve harvey over tom joyner)......I am all for live and local morning shows, but like you said, the radio economy is just bad right now, it seems like every day I log onto this message board I see something about a station firing its airstaff and hiring a computer.

Steve Harvey has made a BIG difference and I like him better then Russ Parr who we carried before we finally dropped him for Steve Harvey. Allen is right though even with a syndicated show you can maximize the local avails with local information. In some markets you can even get Steve Harvey to come and do a local event. It's extremely expensive, but get advertisers in on the deal and it would almost pay for itself. Budgetary reasons unfortunately stations use syndication, but I am like Allen, I am all for a live local show. There is no way someone in New York could relate to the audience in Rocky Mount or even a smaller market like a live DJ could. Russ Parr was one of the worst run shows behind the scenes I have ever seen. I used to have to babysit the show and they inverably miss 95% of the tones to fire the local breaks (hence why I was there to manually do it). Not to mention trying to talk with their producers on these very issues. But since we were not a Radio One station we were treated as such (lowest on the totem pole). I was elated when they told me we did away with Russ Parr. It was the best move we ever did on Power.

I will agree with Allen, power needs to get itself one identity and stay with it (either Urban or Urban AC). Trying to please all is not the way to go, but hey Paul knows it way better than I do since we done quite well in the last book so he must be doing something right. D-Trin does know his audience and he is a nice guy to work with as well. I don't see him as much aas I used to because I'm ususally not there when he is so it has been a while since I have seen him.

ENCSPY I didn't think you were being too negative at all...We are just expressing
opinions..Right or wrong..I try to always make sure I never make it personal..There are lots of things I know i would never write on this forum because they involve personal issues within a company and I try to respect the person who told me stuff in confidence..Most people understand what this site is all about and are adult and intelligent enough to take it in stride..On the other hand there are some who get their noses out of joint about some opinions I have expressed but again the last thing I'm trying to do is upset anyone...
