WRTR Tuscaloosa Drops Classic Rock For Talk

WRTR is now "Talk Radio 105-9", simulcasting WACT. Calls are still WRTR, wonder if they'll eventually change to WACT-FM. The WRTR website now redirects to WACT's news1420.com website.

Didn't someone on the board mention not too long ago that Tuscaloosa was one of the few larger cities in Alabama still without an FM talker? Not any more...
[EDIT-unauthorized promotion]

That's a very weak line-up...none of the top programs such as Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Boortz, Ramsey. The only one they have with a sizable audience is Savage.

Hope they'll have success. Limbaugh and Beck already have a home on AM 1230. The other names listed, don't have a home already in T-Town. Hope this new outlet will pick them up and give them a chance.

It looks like that JACK FM will be the only Rocker in T-Town now.

All of those programs have a 90 day out; I would expect to see RTR candy picking which ones they want and WTBC will be left picking up the scraps.

The current program guide didn't have anything listed for the 2 P.M. till 6 P.M. slot. I wonder if Mr. Sean Hannity is occupying that spot and the web site forgot to list it?

Did Rock 99.5 and the Eagle cause the demise of rock on 105.9?

I doubt Rock 99.5 has done any serious damage to WRTR (WRTR has better numbers in Tuscaloosa than WZRR does, anyhow). WZRR's ratings have been going up and down lately (mostly down). Now that CC, Citadel, and others are moving or adding their talk and sports formatted stations from AM to FM, could the "Big Talker 99.5, WAPI-FM" be on the horizon? Moving a non-music format from AM to FM worked pretty well for 'Jox, first from 690 to 100.5 and then to 94.5. Who would've thought a year ago that WYSF would now be sitting in the #4 spot (as WJOX) in the Birmingham ratings?

this town (Birmingham) is nuts for sports, and PD Ryan Haney has done a great job putting the right pieces in place. Finebaum was a no brainer, but Lance and Ian have exceeded expectations I would assume, and knowing and working with both at one time I couldn't be happier for them...props dudes

As tight as WRTR's playlist was, and as much as they loved to burn out Lynard Skynard, I loved that station... I grew up with WTID "101.7 The Tide", WFFX "95.7 The Fox", and WLXY (simply "100.7 WLXY", and then "ARRO 100.7"), and finally..... "Rock 105" WRTR... which was like Rick and Bubba's 2nd ever radio affiliate, if I recall correctly.... When WRTR moved to 105.9 I think their ratings probably flew the coop....if not before then, most definitely after.

I will miss the "Rock 105" branding just like I do "The Tide," "The Fox," and WLXY (pre-"ARRO")....

WTID's callsign changed, (and their horrible stint as "Star 101-7" too... yuck.), WLXY's callsign changed, then they moved to 100.5.... WTBC's stint as WTNW... FM Radio in Tuscaloosa will stink forever... have to work DX to get anything good. Thank God for Jack FM.

Oh now you're bringing back some memories. I lived in Tuscaloosa for years as a kid but didn't listen to Fox much until I came back to town to go to school. But even then I spent more time listening to ARRO, which I seemed to enjoy immensely. What did WLXY do prior to the "ARRO" format?

I also remember WTNW, with Warren "Gump" the 40-something year old apparent virgin at the helm. The more time I cut from school the more I listened to the Don & Mike show until I finally began taping the whole 4 hour stint on a VCR each day. I still have a few (heavily edited) days of the show stashed away somewhere on minidisc. I happened on that show the day they had something like 58 people show up at a phone booth in T-town. Musta been a sight! Unfortunately Warren was not a smart man and finally dumped the show despite its following, replacing it was the Gary Burbank program. Not too long after that I think they completely re-did the lineup to conservative talk.

My time listening to WTNW was as a kid obsessed with Rush Limbaugh. (Boy was that ever a mistake)... I grew up conservative and now find myself to be so sick of all the politics that I declare myself neutral and apathetic, and it all pisses me off. (But I still carry conservative Christian values).

I also remember liking WZRR (is that what it is?) Classic Rock 99-5 but it was Birmingham so I didn't mention it.

back on topic... RIP, Rock 105 (-9)

Hannity has that time slot. Don't know why it is not on the website
