WRTV-6 up for sale

 McGraw-Hill looks to sell TV station group
McGraw-Hill is planning to spin off its broadcasting group. Morgan Stanley is handling the deal. The stations -- which tallied nearly $100 million sales in 2010 -- include ABC and Azteca America affiliates in Denver and San Diego, Calif., as well as an ABC outlet in Indianapolis. TVNewsCheck (free registration) (6/14)

What TV groups want to be in a top 25 market [for television] - let the speculation begin! :)

I wonder if ABC would be interested in buying the station, & make it an ABC O&O. If ABC does take over the station, then look for Livewell Network to come to the station on 6.2, along with Livewell also being in 720p HD (like all their other stations), & an SD simulcast of Livewell Network on 6.3 (simulcast of Livewell Network is a complete waste of bandwidth on their stations). ABC wants the Livewell Network on their stations to be in HD (Livewell affiliates outside of the ABC group aren't required to have it in HD). If ABC doesn't buy the station, then it'll be interesting who would buy the station. With Indianapolis's market # slowly going up, ABC would be foolish to pass up this station, unless they don't have the money to buy the station, though they did make money off the sale of WJRT Flint, MI & WTVG Toledo, OH (they bought these 2 when WXYZ's affiliation with ABC was up in the air, & WJRT & WTVG can be picked up in portions of the Detroit market, plus they were the only 2 former ABC O&O that didn't have didn't have Livewell in HD).

I just hope no religious organization buy the station, or you can almost guarantee that ABC will disappear from WRTV once the affiliation agreement is up. If a religious organization buys it & runs it as ABC, then expect programming to be pre-empted. NBC affiliate WNDU in South Bend pre-empted some programming when Notre Dame owned the station. No one needs to see a top 4 network relegated to a subchannel in a top 50 market. For those who like CW, it's bad enough that CW is relegated to a subchannel in market #44 (Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo).

This would also be a perfect fit for Dispatch Group.

Here's a question: with the amount of live programming that takes place in Indy (the 500 and Brickyard, Colts football (? with lockout this year maybe,) Pacers basketball...all of which ends up in some capacity on either ABC or ESPN, would ABC gain any technical advantage by having a fixed uplink in place at the station?? I know in the case of NBC's Notre Dame football coverage the network runs fiber from the stadium to WNDU's ops center and then on to New York, with an engineer in place in the event of trouble. Is it worth the effort (they'd still have to get the signal back to N. Meridian somehow)?? I think YES but that's the engineer in me thinking permanent facility over the cost of trucking in an uplink unit (and I think WRTV has one anyway.)

Anyone see the Craig's List showing WRTV for sale? Very funny, with pictures and all, but was pulled in short order. Cute sort of a prank, should'a been left up.

It will be interesting to see the retirements now the MH Had thee station on the block. a
A lot of 25-30 year people there.

Whoever buys the station should either drop the embarrassing 30-minute segments they call "local news" or else hire people who're not working for the National Democratic Committee to do it.
