WRUM SWITCH

There is some talk about CC changing the spanish format on 100.3. Aren't they making money with that great signal and practically having no competition in spanish?.

I seriously doubt WRUM is going to flip...though they've been trending down overall their still outperforming WNUE,Mix 105.1,Sunny 105.9 and WHTQ. I think they could do a lot better then they are-so could WNUE but one has to remember REVENUE is down accross the board and a Format Change costs money...they need to make some adjustments and ramp up their performance to get the attention of MORE AGENCIES.Don't PANIC ;D

:( Ethnic formats have done poorly under PPM. Our friends in San Antonio may just need that big stick of 100.3 to fend off the coming attack from CBS.

The bright side is the not-so-big-stick of 106.7 is positioned very well in Winter Garden to reach the growing Hispanic population if CC decides to do a switcheroo.

You make a great point with the thnic formats and PPM....I just can't imagine what format they'd flip to, that would get the billing Rumba now gets.
I doubt it would be Rush Radio or talk...

The reality is that with a sagging economy the piece of the ad dollar pie get significantly smaller. In Hispanic, it gets even smaller. WRUM has not been able to tap into the local market to make up for lost ad revenue either because its rates are too high for little bodegas and other small businesses in the area.

I'm sure the billing at WRUM has taken a big dip in the last year or so, coupled with drastic fluctuation in ratings and basically being in a dogfight with the inferior signal of WNUE.

WNUE's programming and lineup is way better and the only reason WRUM has higher numbers is signal in the market. WRUM has horrible jocks and programming for this market. Some of the people they have on-air have absolutely no business being near a microphone.

You gotta know how to use that big stick Clear Channel.

OrlandoGM you have it right. They are probably splitting the spanish advertising money with WNUE because of their short gap in ratings with WNUE. It is going to be all a matter of money. With a stick like that you got to be making money or you have to switch to a format that makes the money. On top of that the general market money has gone way down and the spanish one even deeper. They can't sell to local business because of the high rates and they can't sell cheap because then they are wasting out the stick in a market that's not supporting it. Eventually they will have to do what they have to do.

On a given day I can still pick up 100.3 just fine down here in Tampa/St Pete since moving here. I really wish something better was utilizing that powerful reach. In an economy like this, why would you continue to half-arse your product towards a niche audience on the most-powerful, reaching signal in your market? Doesn't sound very cheap of the company who brought the whole 'cheap-channel' moniker to the forefront in the first place. To poke fun at another quote they actually embraced themselves, 'Less' market share is not 'More' revenue, is it?

Eventually they will have to do what they have to do.

That about sums it up. :)

Dpends on whather locals feel they can make more money than Rumba...and of course, that depends on how Rumba is netting now. If 100.3 went Rush Talk, what to do with 540?
Simulcast is an option.

Rush radio...that's really stupid, putting that radical idiot on such a great signal. Don't we have enough right wing idiots already on AM?.

Why would placing Rush on the "big stick" be "stupid" when Rush is the number one radio talk host in America; pulls in huge numbers and Clear Channel already owns the rights to the Rush Limbaugh Show?

With regards to WFLF-AM, should CC move Rush to 100.3, Clear Channel could flip 540 to something similar to WHNZ-AM 1250 Tampa with mostly time-brokered programming. I would say sports, but it makes more sense to leave sports where it is on 740 and do something completely different and viable on 540.

CC can't justify the $$$ moving tlak to 100.3. I gotta think they'd wait to see how the PPMs treated Rumba...not only Rumba, but their other properties too.

Why would CC change when Mega is getting ready to liquidate all their properties. That could be the end of RUMBAS competition in Orlando on FM.

WNUE, 98.1 is no longer owned by Mega Communications. It is now owned by Intravision, they own Channel 26, Pearson. I believe they paid 26 million for WNUE-FM.

It's Entravision, and Channel 26, WVEN-TV is licensed to Daytona Beach. The (defunct) analog transmitter was in Pearson, the digital one is in Orange City. The analog transmitter was purchased by WKMG and is now used as their digital transmitter on RF 26.
