WRWM Becomes I94

Hi, folks. I'm back again with yet another format change.

WRWM, previously known as Warm 93.9, has been a spinning wheel of formats since 2001. The station tried pretty much everything, from Christian music, to oldies, to FM talk, and most recently, Hot AC. But the ratings never seemed to be there. As Warm 93.9, which debuted on January 2nd, 2008, the station floundered in the ratings, falling as low as 21st in the Arbitrons for the Indianapolis market.

After 18 months with the Hot AC format, the decision was made to change formats. At midnight on July 1st, 2009, WRWM dropped the Warm 93.9 format and segued from The Beach Boys' Kokomo into the sounds of a construction site. Liners were played announcing a change that would occur on July 3rd, 2009 at 9:40 AM (EST). Here's a clip of the last few minutes of Warm 93.9, and the beginning of the stunting. http://www.mediafire.com/?muz11wge1to

The stunting continued over the next day or so, with the announcements still coming. Here's a clip of the stunting only. http://www.mediafire.com/?ydlwkonnzem

Finally, on July 3rd, the stunting came to an end at 9:30 AM. The sound of Big Ben chiming played for roughly 10 minutes before an intro montage to the new format began. When the montage ended and the dust had cleared, the new format was introduced at 9:40 AM, as advertised. The format of choice was CHR as I94 and the commitment to play 940 songs commercial-free. I94 was launched to take on Radio Now 100.9 in the ratings. The first song played was The Black-Eyed Peas' Boom Boom Pow. Flips to CHR have been a trend that has been occurring in numerous format changes over the past few months. Here's a clip of the end of the stunting and the launch of I94: http://www.mediafire.com/?whmmlmfkyjh

Enjoy the clips :)!

*Note: I just noticed that this was my 94th post here, which is interesting because the station I was posting airchecks for is called I94. Just thought I'd share that with you.
