Certainly, this ad wasn't put together before mid-July, when WRXP signed off and became WEMP. You'd have to think that they've had at least a month or so to replace the WRXP logo in that ad. But now, you can see this ad at subway stations in the city for at least the next few weeks.

And WRXP's spirit is alive, at least for a little while longer... ::)
 
It was a joke because AFAIK there is no airstaff, but then to be honest I haven't listened so I could be mistaken. The website still lists all the former jocks and timeslots if you click on "The Experience" tab.

By the way they just sent out a tweet saying, "Big things coming tomorrow so watch your twitter feed so you don't miss something. Just sayin." Maybe they're going all-news.

The online 'RXP at www.1019rxp.com has been taking a survey on its site as part of promoting that they will rename the website (likely this week). The possible new names: www.therxp.com and www.myrxp.com (which both redirect to the current 'RXP site). Makes sense to remove the "1019" from the website name since it's no longer relevant.

BTW, the HD2 of 101.9 continues with the smooth jazz/smooth AC format that's been there since February 2008 when it was replaced by New York's Rock Experience on the main HD1 channel.
 
People only listened to WRXP if they had NO OTHER CHOICE in their car or office.

They can't compete online where there are some many better options.
 
I wonder how many people stream stations like RXP in New York or WYSP in Philly after they go streaming-only.

Someone posted statistics about the Rewound Radio site a while ago which suggested it has never had more than 50 listeners at once, and more typically had maybe a dozen or less at any given time. Can any of these exiled, former FM brands be doing much better?

I listened to RXP for a while today. Unsurprisingly, it's been completely stripped of its former personality, and even the uniqueness of its playlist is gone. Now it just plays a very generic, safe, uninspired mix of mainstream rock songs plucked from the Mediabase top 500, and a lot of commercials. Who would listen to that, when so many better streaming options exist?

I ask this in all earnest by the way. I'd like to understand how any of these stations prove worthwhile, profitable ventures for their big corporate owners to continue running in the face of well-funded, customizable, recognizable brand-name alternatives like Pandora, iHeart, Slacker et al.

That is sad to hear. I have not listened in the last few weeks but when I did I like that they still had the RXP imaging and the playlist was still pretty good.

I checked a few hours of the playlist page today, it does not seem all that bad, a bit safe but still better than anything we have currently on NYC radio. Unfortunately I do most of my listening in the car so a web stream is just not going to cut it.

For kicks I tuned into 101.9 and what an absolute disaster. An echoed effect with too high volume levels sounding like they over modulating. It sounds like a college radio broadcast or a mom/pop station on in the sticks. I have nothing against them going news and might have been a potential listener, but this looks to be going down in history as one of the worst format flip flop.
 
Generic, safe playlists... Bah... Why in the world would anyone want to tune into an Internet radio station, when they can get that on terrestrial radio? ???
 
Most former FMs like RXP that are internet only are boring generic jukeboxes. One exception is indie1031.com.. In the almost 3 years since going internet only indie has maintained many of its specialty shows that air throughout the week..also adding several new ones. The regular playlist is programmed locally and is anything but generic.

Thats just it, you can't even get that with NYC radio. There are no terrestrial radio outlets playing alternative rock in and around NYC. I would take the generic playlist from the web feed any day to at least have something to listen to in the car. I do not have time to always research and download music and driving is somewhat of a traffic hazard to always be fiddling with the Ipod.
 
If alternative rock were profitable in the New York City area, a station probably would have flipped to it by now. It's the same reason why there's no active rock or country in the immediate NYC area :)

I doubt Cumulonimbus will put WRRV on 103.9, even though that's a decent rimshot signal (is it still being moved in?)... 92.7 WRRV, the closest alternative rock, doesn't reach NYC due to WQBU which runs a Mexican format...

If anything, I'd sooner expect even a country on 103.9 than alternative rock :)
 
Ive totally given up on Fm ever having anything other than top40,ethnic programming,hip hop or talk in NYC,you should too,get sirius or an mp3 player,if you want to hear anything thats not that.If Fm keeps pissing off its listeners by killing off beloved formats it will have NOBODY listening.Ok somebody wasnt making enough money on 101.9 with rxp ,well guess what the numbers arent so hot now with FM-TALK.

105.5 WDHA is an active rock station from Dover, NJ (studios are actually in Ceder Knolls). And from July to August, their AQH went from 0.7 to 1.2 and the cume jumped from 93,100 to 118,600 in Middlesex-Somerset-Union. Evidently, a lot of people switched over with the demise of WRXP (myself included). For country, there's WKMK in Eatontown.

But you would think that alt rock would be more profitable than the mindless babble they try to pass off as news at WEMP. And personally, as a woman, I for one find FM News to have the most patronizing programming ever. I can't see them lasting more than a year if they keep insulting the intelligence of their audience. While we may not be THE target demographic for rock, the female audience is there. If you listen to RXP's online stream, there are sometimes commercials for anti-aging treatments and cosmetics. Then again, talk stations don't have to pay royalties to record companies.

Don't forget AC, Beans. That's always been the safest music format. Just remember to space out your sentences next time.
