WRXP Planning Its 1st Multi-Stage Rock Festival

The event will feature Coldplay, the Kooks, and a number of other bands. It is scheduled for September 16, at the PNC Arts Center.
I believe this is another indication, along with improving ratings, that 'RXP will remain on the air for years to come, despite all of the talk about Emmis being interested in selling it.

If they can afford to host a concert featuring Coldplay, they're definitely not in the financial situation a lot of posters in this forum imply they are in

Years to come??? AHHHHHHHHH

Strategically, it would make sense for them to drop the AC/DC for good and go full-on AAA/alternative. I doubt too many AC/DC fans would be getting excited about this concert, meanwhile some Coldplay and Kooks fans might complain about AC/DC being too "heavy metal". I wish there was a rock station in this area that doesn't play Coldplay, yet doesn't dwell on AC/DC and GNR. It would be a good idea for 'RXP to realize that their core artists have more than 5 songs.

As much as I dislike hearing AC/DC and Guns N' Roses on WRXP, there must be a reason why they've stuck around while much of the other classic rock they used to play has disappeared. They obviously appeal to whatever audience the station is targeting, as do Coldplay (or at least two or three of their songs). Can't argue with the ratings gains they've been having lately.

I love AC/DC...one of the best live shows of my life (no ballads, dood). Never saw Guns 'n' Roses, but what a prolific, albeit brief career! Coldplay blew me away in Mountainview once and every record is jammed packed with keeper songs. I love a station that plays all the bands I like. Don't know the Kooks yet, but if 'RXP is playing them, I'll probably like their music because I trust the station when they recommend an artist.

I guess I don't compartmentalize my listening into little boxes like some on this board. I think hearing a steady stream of one genre or another would be like eating one kind of food all the time. If I had to eat just salad meal after meal, I'd get bored; I like meat and potatoes too.

Maybe that's why I enjoy New York's Rock Experience. They deliver what they say they are.

Q 104.3 Hd-2 it's on 24/7 in my room... thats all i'm saying... I
hate indie rock and i don;t have the pleasure of getting WSOU, WDHA or WRAT in SW CT like the rest of you in the NYC Tri-state. I am in the Active rock format hole on regular FM.

The newsletter Taylor on Radio-Info is speculating that Emmis may announce as soon as today the sale of one or both of its rock stations in Chicago. If that actually comes to pass, that may further reduce the possibility that Emmis would also sell WRXP, given the funds that they would receive.

Perhaps this news from Inside Radio is another indication that WRXP will be switched to a talk format, once Merlin Media starts to LMA the station within the next couple of months:
"Merlin...names former SVP of broadcasting at Martha Steward Living Omnimedia Liz Aiello as VP of its New York operation, which currently includes just WRXP but may grow in the months to come. Aiello previously worked for Howard Stern."

A sale and LMA of WRXP is made public a day after the station announces an ambitious rock concert. Of course the station is just starting to promote it on air.
What a nutty business radio can be!

It seems to me that WRXP may already be winding down, in preparation for a format change.
I have had the station playing in the background during what is supposed to be the Matt Pinfield and Leslie Fram show, for about an hour.
There is a female announcer, who has not identified herself. She only speaks briefly, after 3 or 4 songs, and sounds voicetracked. There is nothing said about the the weather, who won the concert tickets, etc. And absolutely not a word mentioning Matt Pinfield, the station's star personality.
On the WRXP website, Pinfield's last Twitter entry was dated 6/20, and does not mention 'RXP.

Must be a hell of a job to do your show at the moment at RXP and an attack on your motivation. You know it's over in a couple of weeks. You can better stop now and playing non stop. Maybe that's the next scenario before the flip.

The station was a failure because of the "Program Director Leslie Fram." Worst on-air personality in rock ever, stepped all over Pinfield, laughed at anything a "A-list" rock star said even when it was pure garbage (Jack White, Chris Martin, Green Day, etc..) doesn't even realize the website sucks and the online streaming sucks. Totally voicetracks everything and she let that garbage out on the air, everyone can hear it was voicetracked (get someone who can at least make it sound decent or maybe she is just that bad.) Totally useless. Hate to lose Rock here in NYC again but at least if it comes back it won't be with Leslie Fram. They should at least have the balls to tell us fans what they did to Pinfield, who is the only face of the station (Although Leslie always liked to put her face next to him, could be another reason why station didn't work.) The good thing is Pinfield got the big interviews, so we can only hope someone puts him on and we at least get some interviews or performances from rock stars in NY. Am just saying.
