WRXP Planning Its 1st Multi-Stage Rock Festival

The station was a failure because of the "Program Director Leslie Fram." Worst on-air personality in rock ever... she let that garbage out on the air... Totally useless...

You know what? I hope Leslie Fram gets another shot in New York radio before Leslie Gold.

As was the case yesterday, Leslie Fram is apparently on the air alone and sounds voice tracked. Once again she has made absolutely no mention of co-host Matt Pinfield. This is quite odd, as he is still shown on the WRXP website.

Sounds an awful lot like he saw the writing on the wall and bailed - but WRXP doesn't want to admit it yet.

If not, I guess he's using vacation time that won't be available in mere weeks?

The last time Leslie was on the air solo, I heard her say something to the effect of "Matt has the week off". If she hasn't said any such thing in the past few days, it probably means Matt left or was let go. I wouldn't be surprised if he just bailed - he has bigger fish to fry now with MTV, and probably figured that there was no use wasting his time on board this sinking ship. He also may not have liked doing middays as much as mornings.

As Pinfield is still shown on the WRXP website (albeit less prominently than in the past), it appears he may still be employed there. Stations tend to be very quick to remove former staff members from their websites. Nathan's guess that he is using up his vacation time while he still can, seems plausible.
I still find it weird that WRXP announced an ambitious rock concert 1 day before the news comes out that it will be going off the air soon. It seems inconceivable that the station's management had no inkling of the news at that point. Emmis could have also stepped in and prevented the concert announcement.
Perhaps WRXP will soldier on into mid-September, when the concert is scheduled to take place? If a news or news/talk station is planned for 101.9, it will probably take a while to hire staff, and set it up. It's not like flipping to another music format, and simply playing 10,000 songs in a row, with no dj's.

@MJB: Have to admit that the shift switch worked better for Steve Craig going to mornings, based on the recent numbers...

@Barry: Wouldn't it be funny if, like magic, Merlin will make that "ambitious rock concert" disappear!(They certainly appear to do as much for WRXP.) :D

Yeah stations seems to do this before they sign off, don't know why?? KSJO in SF did this a month before they went off the air earlier this year.

The TAkLiberty Festival would be happening at PNC regardless of WRXP's existence. Live Nation is the promoter and they would have had some typed of Coldplay-headlined festival there. RXP just happens to be the exclusive radio sponsor.

It the person I feel terrible for is Brian Phillips who clearly has been carrying this station. First he was let go from WHTG/WBBO, just before the downfall of that station. Then this happens... talk about bad luck.

Yes..."alternative" music can live soley online, but I still believe that it is NOT impossible for it to live on FM, especially in NYC and at the Jersey Shore. It just needs to be utilized properly. It's too bad no one who would want to own a radio station would be passionate enough to make it work. And vice-versa, someone who is thoroughly passionate about the music, doesn't give a crap about owning a radio station.
