WRXP Reflections From Fram And Craig

Leslie Fram and Steve Craig of the now-defunct (at least on terrestrial radio) WRXP were recently interviewed by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. You may recall that both Fram and Craig had previously worked at Atlanta rock station 99X.

Fram comments that "time will tell" whether New York City gets another rock radio station.

And Craig laments about how the dedicated WRXP sales staff was jettisoned in favor of the sales staff from sister stations Hot 97 and 98.7 Kiss-FM. "As our numbers were going up, our revenues were going down," he recalls.

Pretty much as canned as it can get with some obvious truths in between.

As amusing as calling a 2.6 / 2.3mil not bad (in NY no less) is, "The sale of WRXP had nothing to do with ratings performance. It was purely a business decision based on reducing debt." pretty much sums up the entire article and the last 3 pages of threads.

So, it was what we were told to begin with.

No conspiracy, here.

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!

The level of spin in the Fram/Craig article could power a tornado.

Their main point: the sale of WRXP had nothing to do with them or the brilliant Emmis execs who hired/supervised them. IF the economy was better and IF Emmis didn't need to service their debt (I'm sure you could toss a few more IF's in there!), WRXP would still be rockin' in the free world - or at least NYC airwaves.
