WRXP up again.

For all the talk about the station being a failure, it was getting a 2.6 before it went to news. So I'll say it goes a little bit higher.

I know they were only 6+ figures, but I could never understand how (at the time) a station with 2.1-2.1 million listeners a week, was judged to be a failure. This time round it appears that 101.9 (WRXP) are far more focused, so it may just crack a 3 share...

All this is being done without any regular airstaff or promotion. It's just kind of there and people are finding it.

Emmis spent all that money on RXP 1.0 and it got them a 2.6. In my opinion, if a different morning show were in place it would have cracked a 3 share. Pinfield was probably one of the worst choices for a morning host. Who wanted to hear that when you woke up? There was a reason Scottso was on afternoons at WNEW...

Yes...he was the boss and he liked to sleep late. :)

But yes, he was an aquired taste. I wonder of he ever did mornings anywhere.

I loved the professor, but he sure wasn't what I wanted to hear first thing in the morning. And I would assume some nights the hangover hadn't worn off at 6am for him ;)

RXP needs a regular AM drive host to spin the tunes, give a little bit of info and otherwise shut up and stay out of the way. Offer an alternative to the yapping on every other station.

I heard they're going to start adding DJs starting this month. Hopefully they've added a few real DJs and have local music of the same format rather than a feed from Chicago.

Amazing how they're getting 3-4 times the ratings as FM News without having to spend a fortune to produce the all news format.

Now you understand why some radio companies don't spend money on content creation.

RXP has basically doubled it's share every book so far and it's only 2+ months in with next to no promotion, no real website until a week ago and little to no staff. That's a pretty darn good sign considering. Less is more in the the modern alt rock world in 2012, and it's looking like it may actually work in NY. Whether Merlin sticks around is another issue.

The main page of Radio-Info.com is mentioning several rumors that could indicate rock on 101.9 may only be temporary.
It says that according to "reliable sources," CBS radio is interested in purchasing Merlin's NYC and Philadelphia stations, possibly for their new FM sports network. Cumulus is said to also be interested in the NYC, as well as the Chicago stations.
The article also states that according to an "inside source," no dj's are "expected to be hired at this juncture" for the Merlin stations.
I suppose there is a chance rock on 'RXP could continue if Merlin declines to sell, or if Cumulus is the buyer. But the fact that there has been no promotion of New Rock 101.9 seems to be another indication that this is not intended as a format for the long haul.

It says they plan to include DJs by this month on 101.9. I doubt CBS would buy an FM for Sports. Look at 98.7's ratings, they aren't very strong. I can see them doing Philly because they don't have as many teams as NYC does. NYC has too many teams as well. CBS has too many stations. They could blow up Now FM and put it on 92.3. 101.9 I imagine if sold would go to Cumulus or Cumulus would buy 99.5 and 94.7 or one of the two. It's hard when all the companies are merging/maxed out & none in NYC can sell. Emmis can't buy, SBS probably won't buy, CC is maxed out, CBS is maxed out. Only one that I know of that isn't maxed out is Cumulus. I can't see any other stations going into the NYC market besides Greater Media or Cox maybe.

Does anyone really think CBS is going to put their national network on an FM before the Fan goes on an FM?

Do you think that anyone who is looking at RXP will look at the growth over the past two months? One million people in two months is a big deal. I have noticed that there is a bit of agency inventory floating around on RXP, that wasn't there at the start. Obviously they are watching. Does anyone have any idea on how they are doing in their target demo's?

Shows they are just outside of the top 10 in 18-34 and #14 in the money demo. Not bad at all for a station that's only two months old with no promotion.
