WRXP: ways to fix it!

New Name? I think so. the idea Rock 101.9 RXP isn't helping them either. It sounds worse than WRFY-FM Y 102 in Reading, PA!!!!!That's sad!!!!!!!!They should change their name to The Buzz or get new voice people coming on, change their playlist a lot of it! Alll of it! Make it Alternative like KRock in 2001-2004ish!
Name ideas?
The Buzz
Radio 101.9?
B 101.9?
G 101.9?
Y 101.9?
Model yourselves after Q101 in Chicago!!!!!!!!!!What are you thinking?!NOTHING IS WORKING FOR YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!WHY ARE YOU LETTING IT FAIL!!!!!!!!!!

^Q101/Chicago isn't doing so well (pretty sure RXP is doing a lot better than they are)

I'd model themselves after nearby Radio 104.5/Philadelphia, which is skyrocketing in ratings

^Yeah, I guess I don't really understand how Alternative radio can be doing so well in Philly and so poorly in NYC - are the demographics that different?

They need to have a moratorium on playing AC/DC, Green Day's American Idiot and Nirvana. I went from listening to the station all the time to not at all in the last week because of this. I do not hate those bands it is just that they are being beating to death songs that were already beaten to death. AC/DC does not even belong on the station.

That repetition may work well at the Q but I think they may lose their loyal fans when the next PPM numbers come out.

Radio 104.5? You mean playing kiddie pop fluff like Fall Out Boy and Paramore, generic pseudo-grunge dullards like Puddle Of Mudd and Fuel, and NON-alternative acts like The Fray and All American Rejects? That, and playing the same old tired Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Chili Peppers, STP, etc. songs ad nauseum? Sorry, no thank you. There's enough stations targeting the very young demos.

I wish I could receive WRXP here in South Jersey. Between actually allowing their personalities to show some personality (what a novel concept!), having a broad playlist (not the same boring 300-400 songs like Cheap Channel does) and having specialty shows, it's the most musically interesting commercial FM station NYC has had since WPIX was playing new wave.

That said, the station could use some improvement ... in particular, dropping the classic rock and focusing on an adult-friendly alternative rock format. That's pretty much what they're already doing to a large extent. But I fail to see how this same audience wants to hear the corporate rock old guard: acts like AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, and Van Halen. It has enough of a presence on this station that I think it's affecting their numbers, and not in a good way. That's one significant change they can make.

WRXP does well in suburban markets, all of which lack an station focusing on current music and alternative rock acts. Now they need to tweak it to get better numbers in their own market. Letting go of the dino-rockers would be a good start.

That's a really bizarre description of Radio 104.5...#1 on their playlist is Adele, #2 The Strokes, #3 The Black Keys, then Young The Giant, Arcade Fire, The Naked And Famous, and tracks by Phoenix, Cage The Elephant, Death Cab, Airborne Toxic Event, Mumford & Sons, and MGMT - it seems pretty Indie-based to me

Whatever they're doing, it's working, as they shot up 2.8-4.2 over the two months since the Holiday break (while RXP moved 2.2.-2.3)

I think RXP needs to look at how well Indie-based Alternative stations have done in the past two months, and jump on that bandwagon...

are you kidding? Philadelphia and New York have completely different demographics.

Philly had Alternative Y-100 for YEARS back in the mid-late '90s, so the folks who live there are comfortable/familiar with hearing alternative music on the radio...

The New York metro area has NEVER had a TRUE Alternative station - K-Rock was always a mess, WDRE didn't reach most of the diary-holding boroughs (same with Alternative WRGX - X107, which broadcast out of Westchester back in the day).

What about the idea of turning WRXP into a true Triple A outlet? They can play some of the more mellow classic rock hits that aired in the market back in the Meg Griffin/Dave Hermann on-air days, along with some of the newer stuff that WFUV has warmed up the market with - almost like what 107.1 The Peak is doing up in Westchester...

I'm guessing you haven't listened to WRXP in at least a year and a half, because nowadays they do play "the same boring 300-400 songs". The playlist is largely centered around those well-worn 90's hits, with some really safe late 70's/80's titles thrown in. And even with the massive trimming of their playlist, they still failed to remove AC/DC, Van Halen, and GNR. They do play some good new music, but there's also a lot that they miss out on, or are really late to add.

I actually think Radio 104.5 sounds a lot better than WRXP these days. They play more new music, and while their gold rotation is on the safe side, they at least throw in a few more "oh wow" songs and switch it up more often than WRXP does. Also, I haven't heard them play The Fray lately, and if do they play Puddle of Mudd or Fuel, it's the same one or two songs that WRXP also plays. And at least Fall Out Boy sounds a little less out of place than Van Halen.

There is one way to fix this station, Get rid of the program director, Leslie Fram. She gets no respect at RXP and she has no ideas to make it better. Because she wants to stay on air, she voicetracks w/ Pinfield everyday before they are on at 10am and she doesn't realize no one wants her on air or at the concerts she goes to and announces bands they don't play are RXP. More to come, Promise.
