WRXZ 106.1

Driving through Worth County today, all I heard on 106.1 was dead air. Any ideas about this station? It was up and running a few days ago.

WRXZ is known as "Hot 106", which of course, is not so hot these days. Its parent company, On Top Communications, filed for bankruptcy about a year or two ago, and basically just staying on the air with smoke and mirrors, assuming anyone either bothers to notice. How about putting an FM news/talker on 106.1?

Something would be better than nothing! :) I get frustrated with Albany radio at times. There are so many great personalities and opportunities out there. It would be nice to have a new format/new ideas/something new to talk about! Having a station run more personally with the area in mind, and being LIVE and LOCAL would give the region something to look to.

We've got 102.1, 106.1, and 105.7 (just to name a few) that are in desperate need of something. News/talk, FOX/ESPN, Spanish, etc. Sometimes I wish I had the capital and investors to buy one of those stations and give listeners more personal attention that they're getting now with corporate radio.

Until then, it's either Cumulus or ClearChannel in Albany.

On Top filled bankruptcy a while back, but HOT 106.1 was still pumping Hip-Hop and R&B last time I heard Memorial Day weekend. How long before WJIZ 96.3 receives some real competition!

That's the real shame. The former "Blazin' 102.1" only recently became a simulcast of V105 (WQVE-105.5), when an entirely different format would've been well suited for 102.1 FM, IMHO. You're right, though, CC and Cumulus both dominate the radio scene in the Albany area at this time, with no changes coming in the foreseeable future.

Rumor has it that 106.1 is basically being run out of someone spare bedroom with just a laptop. Someone may have forgot to reboot the computer.

nonetheless, if there's dead air.. a station is required to either regain control of their transmitter or shut off the transmitter.

I wonder where their local studio & phone number is..

Where in Georgia do you work in radio?

Odd, is there audio processing or does it just go from the laoptop to STL and out to the transmitter?

Heck, somebody's gotta do something about that. That's not right.
