WRXZ-WFFM Hot 106

Does WRXZ have a new website?

Since On Top let all of their websites expire for their stations, WWHV and KNOU now have new sites.

Also, I heard a rumor that 105.7 WFFM was silent, and WRXZ 106.1 was the only signal that was on. Is this true, or are they both still simulcasting?

I can't help you much concerning their website. I too would love to know what they are up to. Does anyone know how On Top is doing? I can confirm that WFFM has been silent for over a year. What a waste.

Last time I checked, WRXZ was still on the air, but beyond that, I'm not sure about the future of 106.1, or about whether or not WFFM will ever get back on the air.

I listened to 106.1 today for nearly an hour...I heard ONE commercial for Odyssey Records in Albany (which was out of date; promoting something for Dec. 3 and Dec. 10). The rest was music intermingled with station ID. And to think they had like an 8-share in the Spring 05 books?

When a radio station is running at least one commercial that's out of date, that's a sign it's on the verge of bankruptcy. It'll be interesting to see what unfolds with 106.1. Maybe Agape Life Ministries, the parent company of WSRA-1250 in Albany, should at least look into buying the 106.1 frequency, and moving the sports format there. At least ESPN Radio could be heard throughout most, if not all, of the Albany metro area.

Just curious, but what do you think 106.1 (or a station like it) would go for? Would On Top Communications be ready to just dump it for a bargain basement price or would they command more since it's rated in the top 5 stations in the Albany market (according to the Spring 05 books)?

It's probably not up to On Top to set the price. It's probably the lender who would just want out and might short sell it (less than balance due). Of course if the lender does take it back they might seal bid auction it and there is probably some nimrod out there who will pay more than its worth. High ratings would only be one factor for a price (not at all if a format change is planned by the new owner). A most important one is billing. If its billing squat that dramatically lowers its value.
Pardon the rambles from someone who used to be with 106.

Agreed. Few people remember that the station currently known as "Hot 106" started as WKMK-106.1 "aka" Mix 106, in early 1993. The selection of adult contemporary music played on Mix 106 was unlike any other station.

WKMK also carried some local high school sports, as well as the Albany Polecats minor league baseball games in 1993-94. It seemed like things went downhill, though, after WKMK became WRXZ in late 1994, and tried several formats, including the ill-fated "Z Rock", before "Hot" came along.
