WRZE Gone from Nantucket

Just a quick update. Looks like WRZE's transmitter is in it's new (temporary) location in Dennis. It's old antenna and TX equipment has been taken off of the tower on Nantucket. They are operating at reduced power (3.6kw) until thier new facility in Dennis is completed.

Well, at least locationally, that's the end of an era...but 96.3 The Rose has been a strong staple on the Cape & Islands for years...not a bad sounding one at that, from time to time I can get the signal (or could get it) right up the Thames River in Groton...clear to Norwich.

Years ago I was 96.3's direct competitor, back in the early 80s, as PD of WMVY 92.7. I can also get the station from this vantage point from time to time. And, they're still AAA after 26 years...

Did some repair work for 'em years ago when they were WXJY. Station had a pair of Harris Medalist boards at the time, and the on-air board crapped the bed one afternoon after the on-air guy did a break. We ended up going on from the production studio. Harris sent us a new motherboard for the on-air console. Got socked-in the day I was supposed to go back to Hyannis, and then back to WBSM. That was fun.....back in 1983.

I remember during summers past, when WQXR here in New York would sign off on Sunday nights/Monday mornings, I could usually pick up The Rose out of Mass. for awhile. Sometimes WKPE at 104.7 too. Scary. Anyway, not sure if I can pick up WRZE now, especially with all the HD Radio hash.

Where is the new transmitter site?
Near Setucket and Hokum Rock Roads I believe.(they're both in Dennis.)
