WRZN-AM 720 IS ALL OVER THE ROAD...

... as expected!

As of this posting [12:21 PM] WRZN-AM 720 is airing portions of the program Big Band Jump, featuring the big band sounds of the 1940s followed by a segue into Frank Sinatra that is not a part of BBJ followed by as much as a minute of dead air between songs. I believe BBJ is a two hour program, so assuming it started at noon, and assuming the entire programmed is being aired, it will be interesting to hear what is coming next at 2:00 PM. It's possible the engineer is conducting a test and that may explain the gaps between songs.

Once they make up their mind, what would they plan to do during the nights, with that 250w signal?

WRZN is still airing portions of Big Band Jump, but not the complete program, along with gaps between songs. I'm hearing a carrier with no modulation for as long as 30-minutes at a time. This may possibly be due to engineering work at the transmitter site as I had stated earlier.

As for night service, I believe the main focus is to target Ocala at night with the translator. The AM night signal covers Inverness and parts of Crystal River and that is about it.

As earlier stated, the new format will be News-Talk once they finish "playing around" with "Hot 720", Big Band Jump, Gypsy Dance Music and All Wayne Newton, All The Time.

Sorry Mark, someone stole your idea:

WAYN AM 900 Rockingham, NC Wayne Radio- Danke Shoen!

WAYN didn't steal my idea. They just took my call letters as I see WAYN-AM 900 is adult contemporary. I can use WWNE which is available per the FCC call sign reservation desk. I'm telling you All Wayne, All The Time is the way of the future for terristrial radio.

Interestingly WRZN is now airing "The Premier Radio Network Test Channel" playing obscure jazz and light rock with the inserts "This is the left channel... This is the right channel." I figured engineering work was being conducted which explains the "all over the road" un-programming currently on the air.

I hope Marc Radio appreciates all the buzz and free publicity we are giving them now with our minute-by-minute updates that only radio professionals have an interest in knowing.

Is it a canned new/talk format like Fox or something they are cobbling together from different sources? I guess if I wasnt too lazy I could get in my truck and drive over to US 19 where I can pick 720 up! Yet here I sit, typing questions on my computer.......

I've only listened for about an hour so far; However, the format appears to be a clone of WDVH 980 complete with Fox News at the TOH and SRN news at the 00:50. The talk programming on now is syndicated. I haven't heard any liners identifying WRZN with a new moniker, but I have heard a few hold-over commercials giving reference to Sunny 720.

As for the new WPLL 101.7, it's mainly CCM music. From what I have been able to identify, it appears it is being called Positive FM.

WPLL is carrying the WAY-FM programming. WAYT 88.1 in Tallahassee is the same (mostly) except WPLL is inserting local ads, whereas WAYT and other WAY-FM affiliates (Such as 88.3 in Panama City) are totally listener supported.

Interesting observation 901Rocks. Indeed, a search for way-fm finds many stations with this format, most but not all in the non-comm reserved portion of the FM band. Promos touting commercial free programming and listener supported programming. Could be they have existing commercial contracts that need to run their course. None of the websites mention WPLL yet and a search for FL stations does not yet show Trenton 101.7. Do the stations you are familiar with brand themselves as WAY-FM or Pulse, or something else??

WDVH's biggest commercial success was the Swap and Shop. Lets see what happens Wednesday and Saturday morning. Sounds like Jim Brand is doing a daily, shorted Swap and Shop on WDVH-AM now.

The WAY-FM stations I'm familiar with brand themselves as such. This new station does not, although I have heard them run "Today's Word On the Way" which is a daily Bible verse, that's the first thing I heard this morning, leading me to believe it was indeed a WAY-FM. I flipped down to 88.1 to compare, and the music was different. Later on in the day, the songs matched up on WAYT and WPLL. They did announce that "Swap & Shop" would continue on Saturday mornings.

The Way FM folks also run a turnkey CCM network that is basically an unbranded version of Way FM. They have both commercial and noncommercial affiliates.
