WSAH To Become (Nothing) Affiliate October 1!

Starting today, WSAH drops its RTN affiliation to go wall-to-wall infomercials (with the occasional "educational/informational" programming thrown in here and there) around-the-clock.

So long, Magnum. It was fun while it lasted.

Yes!I was good while it lasted.Until RTV finds a replacement i will have to depend on using HULU or comcasts fancast to watch the old shows!Im sure infomercials have a place in the TV world be im no fan of them.

I have to ask: Does anyone actually watch a station that's wall-to-wall infomercials? Is there any point to such a station's continued existence?

Just wondering.

They must be selling a lot of Shamwows.

BOSTON still has it on WMFP

Since WMFP and WSAH are both owned by the same company, then it's a bit fishy that they would drop RTN from WSAH and not WMFP. I think there is more to the story than the "technical issues" explained in the other thread.

Conspiracy theories give us comfort...

Very simple, WMFP has a contractual obligation, we didn't. Sean saw what was going on in Boston and didn't sign for WSAH.

We do quite well thank you. Pays the bills quite nicely.

On a side note and knowing this station has nothing to do with the company Ron is with, WRNT still has RTV programming on right now (amazingly at that. I mean, this is a station that has bounced between at least 6 different networks in the time I've watched them).

The advertisers must not care if anyone watches, as long as their infomercials are airing. People are noticing RTV on WMFP. I know several people, none of which are Radio/TV geeks that read this site, that have found it, and are watching. I hope they're locked into a long term contract!

I could not find much about WRNT but from i did see it is pretty low power and people who live alot closer to the transmitter site than i do cant seem to get them.I don't really know if any cable station carries them also. The RTN web page seems to be abit slow on updating its site so is WRNT really still broadcasting RTV and if so i hope RTN realizes that its most likely getting a very small audience.

I get it with a very light amount of snow (I-Spy just finished). Ugh! it's Vince with the Slap Chop!

I'm in Middletown, which I guess to be over 20 miles away.

They must be generating -some- money. They do share the leads from the PIs and if by some miracle they actually SELL a spot (the sold FOUR for us). So Sal is happy to be getting something, better than nothing. And they take care of all his IDs and the like.

WRNT has a null to the west, so even in places like Farmington that are just a couple miles from the transmitter, there is no signal.

I checked the RTV fan page on Facebook and apparently they are already in talks with other NYC stations and should be announcing a new affiliate soon. Hopefully it works out for them this time.

I can attest to that. I know my older brother, who is living with ALS (for over 20 years!), watches WMFP all the time and really enjoys the Classic TV of RTV, day-in and day-out. It's basically all I watch for the most part, except for watching CNN and HLN from time to time. I do wish they (RTV/WMFP) should try to get some local spots on WMFP during the day, instead of the P.I.'s. There is a untapped potential for reaching that audience who really enjoys that kind of television. I'm surprised that Ernie Boch Jr. (not to be confused with the phony "Ernie Boch III" ;) ) doesn't advertise on RTV. Boch is a guy who loves the kind of shows like the late "Creature Double Feature" (formerly on Channel 56 for years and actually did a "guest" version of it a few years ago). These are the same people (audience) who want to buy cars and whatnot. If we want to keep RTV on WMFP, somebody should start pounding the pavement or have RTV do some work to promo the Boston station and get those local advertisers. The failed WSAH experiment was a kind of "wake-up call" that RTV should recognize and make sure it doesn't happen again. Boston's RTV has a substantial audience. It's time to tap into it! IMHO.

It's ironic that people complain about too many commercials on TV and then watch infomercials.

So WSAH will have no programming content, just commercials. Regardless of whether they make money or not, what a waste of a signal.

I don't know about their DTV signal, but somewhere I heard that WSAH's analog signal was pretty funky. I was told it came in better OVER-THE-AIR on Long Island better than in most of Connecitcut. I picked them up once on my pocket sized TV back in 1995. I was an 8th grade student on a tour bus going on a field trip to Washington DC. I believe we were on Route 8. Back then they were WHAI-TV and ran the Valuevision (now ShopNBC) Shopping Network, but I didn't know what channel they were. I just remember the ID on the screen being WHAI-TV Bridgeport.

I'm all for a free market, but with television and its limited frequencies, I think it's embarrassing that the government allows stations like WSAH to waste bandwidth.
