WSAR website - Hit and miss

The front page is updated constantly with pics to reflect Spring training updates. But it seems like they don't give a crap about other pages on the site. Keri Rodriquez has had the same page up for weeks even though it says "TODAY ON THE PROGRAM". Well Today was three weeks ago! She's so busy screwing around with myspace and that new boyfriend of hers that she can't get her act together.
http://wsar.com/keri_rodrigues.htm .

The weekend programming link has been under construction for over a year. Comon Keri. I know I'm hard on you in here. But seriously..... get it together. The website looks like crap. You've got the time...... but you just arn't using it properly.

John I'm sure you're a nice guy in person, but online you're transitioning from being entertainingly abrasive to disturbingly creepy.

No..... trust me, I'm creepy in person too. LOL.

As an added note: I'm always fair in my critiques. It's a fact that the WSAR website is hit and miss. It's a fact that various areas have said Under Construction for over a year. You don't need to take my word. All you need to do is visit it on a weekly basis to see for yourself that I'm correct. It's an unfinished mess.

It would seem to me that if you actually care about the station in which you program, you would not get lazy about such things. In this day and age a stations website is an important part of it's overall identity. You don't want incorrect information on there. It actually makes the station look lazy as if they do not care.

Keri comes here all the time. I know this because she has often emailed me in the past when I comment on her here. So for her to actually read about the problems and still refuse to fix them, what does that say about her as a PD?

I don't pick on Keri here solely because she's Keri. I would love to find someone else or some other reason to strike up conversation. But in Providence area Radio two things stick out like a sore thumb. #1. How historically bad WALE was and #2. how many things are wrong with WSAR.

I think I make valid points.

Skynet is doing WSAR a favor.
Not one thing he said was false.

I enjoy Skynet and Runnriggers posts.
It's a PROFESSIONAL radio outfit (WSAR). It should look the part. Walter.

Unintentionally, I'm sure, you've raised a couple of additional points:

1. When the WALE call-letters were on a 250-Watt fulltimer on 1400 in Fall River there was competition between them and WSAR. Their programming was similar in many ways; they were competing for a "Greater Fall River" audience and both were making good income off serving that market. When the call was dropped by the folks who bought the station, "grouping" it with WSAR, the bottom fell out; competition went away and both stations suffered. True, though, that the market was changing and a lot of ticky-tacky little houses were being built for refugees from Rhode Island who maintained their Providence listening habits. It's also when the WALE call earned the bad name.....

2. The WSAR signal is better in Providence than it was in the days of their 4-tower array (now 2-tower) but it's not up to the major players. The ownership is focused primarily on other businesses. The ingredients just are not there to make the station a powerhouse in Providence...a market that has about twice as many signals as would be optimal to make anything other than the top 2 or 3 at all profitable.

Time will show whether the folks who have moved into Swansea, Somerset, Fall River, etc. from Providence will ever come to identify with "Greater Fall River". I'm guessing not since downtown F.R. is essentially gutted. If they do acquire a new identity there may be some potential for WSAR. If not, well, it's a nice toy for the owners. But not even the political-influence tool it might have been ten or mroe years back.

All very good points. I just visited the site again. Of course for the 22nd consecutive day Kerry has the same upcoming show. I apologize if my comments seem personal. It's really not meant to be. It's just frustrating to see that she appears to care so little about what other people think. Even when their thoughts are very valid ones. I can almost guarantee you that she has read my comments about the website and said outloud to the screen. "I DON'T HAVE TO CHANGE CRAP FOR YOU!".

Unfortunately Keri doesn't seem to realize what Walter mentioned earlier is absolutely correct. I am doing WSAR a favor by pointing out the problems. By "NOT" fixing these things it surely isn't any skin off my back. Keri is just hurting herself when people see that she can't even take care of her stations website. You either want to be taken seriously in the business or you don't. When you are the PD and your website looks like crap for months at a time, WHO do you think that reflects poorly on? It surely isn't me.

Best of Luck Keri.

she's got a huge colorful wonder woman-esque sign of her name up on her site. i think it has been up for quite some time..

Yeah her boyfriend made that for her. She had no trouble putting the sign up, but she cant manage to update what's coming up on the show. LOL

UPDATE: She finally updated the text to now reflect that nothing is coming up. At least she got rid of the old text. Now if she can just manage to update all the other incomplete pages on the site, we'll be in business.

Randy,
Skynet pionted out faults of a Radio station on a Radio forum. You're insulting
him for that?
If you work in Radio, don't you care about your station?
Or is something else going on? :-X

Nothing else is going on. I've met Keri once - 3 weeks ago as I was leaving Cape Cod on my way home to Myrtle Beach. She's passionate about what she does and I respect that.

As for pointing out faults of a radio station - the station's website would be one of the last items to critique, IMHO. Unless the station streams its audio or is used as another NTR source, it's gotta be low on the list of priorities, unless there's a promotions director or web-geek handy to update it every day or week. Most small groups don't have or can't afford the luxury.

You have been defending her for 2 years. You have said that you knew her
in a post over a year ago.
Passionate, thats not the word I would use. no, not the word at all. Walter

I worked at WHJJ. Sometimes with Keri. Look I'm sorry, but she's Nuts.
I was actually afraid of her. :-X

Yes, I met her for the first time in person 3 weeks ago. I've talked with her in the past, due to my father's affiliation with the station as well as the traffic director being a close friend of the family's for more than 35 years.

Because I grew up with WSAR, I will defend the station with, or without Keri. If you choose to opine in the negative, I have no problem with that. However, whining about the station's website is trivial at best.

In my honest opinion, growing up with a station isn't a good reason to blindly defend it. I actually worked at WSAR until I couldn't take it anymore. I'm not going to sit here and defend them just because I spent a part of my life there. I am also surprised that you trivialize the importance of a stations website.

Keri is busy going on National shows such as Colmes where she has a great opportunity at exposure. Exposure that could move her up the ranks. So tell me what happens when these power players from major Radio corporations go to check Keri out? Do you know what they see? They see some chick who can't even get her station website together in two years time! It makes her look incompetent.

Yeah I'm hard on Keri simply because she deserves it. Her whole job involves critiquing numerous people each and every day of her life. If she can dish it out, she needs to learn how to take it. Otherwise she is clearly in the wrong career. Based on how overly sensitive she gets I can say with a fair amount of confidence that she probably won't be working in Radio 5 years from now. She's not mentally strong enough to handle the publics opinion of her. She's very susceptible to meltdowns. Not only have I been told this by people who have worked with her, but I've seen it for myself in a few emails where she has lashed out at me. She's a bit of a loose cannon.

I'm not trivializing a station's website - only prioritizing it.

If the station in question uses the website for on-air contesting, streaming, NTR, etc., then it should be updated with regular frequency.

If it's there just to "be there" (for sake of a better phrase), then an occasional update is fine by me for jock information, programming list and ancillary information. It's all about priorities. Ask any PD - many of them have jocks update their website when they have the time if there's no promotions director or assistant that has website updates as part of their duties.

On-air elements first and foremost!!

Half the time Keri is 'hanging around'. There is NOTHING to do. WSAR is a very small player. A SIMPLE station to run.
There is PLENTY of 'When they have the time'. Ask Hec the General Manager.

Yes, you make vaild points! I agree! How about the news team at WSAR? That is probably there best asset! Give credit to Keri on that side of things!- Allan, Clif, and Barry are great there!!!!!!!
