WSAR's New Website

WOW.... a small miracle has happened. WSAR actually has a real website up now! It's not perfect, but it's the best thing they've had up in 3 years. I find it interesting that "you know who" couldn't manage to get a website up in three years. But now after only two weeks with "you know who" out of the building they've got a real site up and running. Isn't that amazing? But I'm sure that "you know who" will show up here taking credit saying that she designed it and it was already to be uploaded when she resigned her position. That will mean sh*t to me though. #1.... I won't believe it.. and #2.... if the site was ready to go when "you know who" left the building than why wasn't it already uploaded two weeks ago? Bottom line is that "you know who" couldn't get the job done.

Anyway.... now I'll give a quick critique of the website. They kept the same ugly Logo. I don't know who came up with it, but it's just horrible. Hopefully something a little more creative can be done with it down the road. I don't happen to think simply placing the call letters in an Italic font is all that creative. It looks like a logo from 1948. One day I may screw around with Photoshop and come up with something better just to see if they will like it.

It's currently 9 :30 PM as I am write this. I notice that the site has a picture of the talent now On Air. The only problem is that it says "ON AIR NOW" MIKE HERREN 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.' So either I'm in a different time zone (or) they've got problems with their clock.

Other than that it's looking good. Some of the images don't work, but they could be fixing this stuff right now as I speak for all I know. I think this may be the best looking site I've ever seen the station have. At least they are finally making progress.

P-Stone, the site looks great. I'm glad it's finally up. You rock brother. ;)

Get Hec to give you the AP video links -- or at least the info to call the tech people.
I forgot to leave it for you after the conference call. It'll look cool with the rotating video.

Much appreciated K-Rod. We're working on getting our AP situation worked out as we speak. You'd figure it'd be as easy as a phone call to the desk, but not so...

As for you Skynet...you didn't even give me the pleasure of posting "WSAR.com is up!" I was devastated! Although, now I have this image in my head of you sitting at a computer constantly refreshing the website to see if anything pops up. You know, in between all that time you spend writing Happy Hec and Keri zingers. Which is to say you have about an extra 2 minutes a day.

So, uh, thanks for the compliments? And I'll have you know, we actually kinda like that battleship logo. Tough to call it old when nobody was ever actually navigating to the old site.

Naturally, this is still a work in progress so...we'll see how it turns out...

I wasn't talking about the Battleship. I'm talking about the Call letter Logo Text. That is what looks old style to me. By old this is what I mean. Picture a food product from the 1940's such as a box of cereal. Picture how those letters are written on the box. This is what the text looks like to me. Old Style. It's the same logo you guys use on your Mic flags. I don't like it. It's very plain looking and uncreative. I really do like the new website. I think you did a good job on it. I just don't like that text logo. Who created it?

I don't know who created the call letters logo. It's been around for quite some time now. On the plus side, it's not as bad as it used to be with the pink, block letters and the aqua-green numbers. I'd love to see a more creative version of it though, especially as the station moves farther away from dead serious news talk. I kind of always liked the blue & black style of it, but maybe just some dressed up new letters would work nice. I'm also someone who is always in favor of changing a logo when things have gotten sour.

Denver Broncos - changed logo, won two super bowls.

Cleveland Cavaliers - changed logo, got LeBron

NE Patriots - well....you know...

Mike has the new logo that we created about a year and a half ago -- but that some folks just kept killing in favor of the "new" old-fashioned logo because they didn't want to have to change the stationary. (I hated seeing it on the new sign when the other one we have is great!) The new logo is actually used in all the industry mags (like Talkers for Phil Hendrie) etc. and I've been pushing that we use the updated version for more than a year. See if they'll let you use it on the site, as it's alot more professional looking -- and if you need the PDF, I think I might still have it.

Why wouldn't you simply call patrick and tell him?

I was thinking the same thing. To conduct business on a Radio forum seems very odd. I think she's trying to appear as if she still has sort of say or still has some kind of influence on the station. Who knows? It's weird though.

Better than the old one

The website is light years better than it ever has been. When I was at WSAR in early-2000, it was the cheesiest, cheapest looking website on the entire Web. The new logo doesn't blow me away, but its better than that old pink and teal logo with the mouth with teeth sticking out that looked more like a volleyball than anything else. I'm no fan of WSAR and their owners, but the website is a nice improvement, now I just wish they would broadcast online so I can get some laughs all the way down here in DC.

Here's a link to the Internet Archive where yo can see what the old websites looked like, sans graphics:

Patrick's been working really hard on the website for quite some time. Getting the Karams to actually approve it also took alot of work. And after what's been written here in the past, I think giving Patrick kudos publicly is due.

We all know who reads this board. And one day when Providence or Boston is looking for a kick ass sports commentator -- slightly sarcastic, with an encyclopedic memory and lightening wit, they'll think to call Pat. After all, he also does websites -- and who doesn't like a multi-tasker?

:) Keri
