WSAR's website

I was just checking around and I noticed WSAR's website promoting Mike Moran. Then I thought.Did 'nt he leave a while ago?So I did a search in the search area on Radio-Info and sure enough. It's been about 3 months or so.

Why have a (explicit) website if your not going to keep it current?

Sorry, I had to vent....

Also, when was the last time the Projo updated it's radio station list? They still have WKKB as a rock station. The station has moved studios twice since it was rock.To North Main st street and now it's current location at the GhettoPlex on Oxford st.

WSAR's website has been a mess for years. Even when it did have the current crop of hosts listed,
it always had an Under Construction banner on the bottom. I had a web designer friend who approached Keri about making the station a website a long time ago. But she never got back to him. Then a couple of months ago she told me directly that there will be a new website coming soon. Now there is still nothing there. In Keri's world the word "Soon" seems to mean "Never". She's going to get pissed at me for saying that, but it doesn't change the fact that it's the truth.

Three more weeks go by after the original post and guess what? Still nothing there. Perhaps by Christmas someone can get motivated. Certain people may say that for a radio station.. their website isn't a priority. I'm not buying that argument. I'm saying that having an under construction banner on your stations website for months and months at a time shows a serious lack of interest in your job.

Four more weeks go by. That website is really coming together. http://www.wsar.com

Well, the biggest problem is, without a major affiliation to a network, they have no real way of putting news on that website, save using Metro Networks, and I'm sure Keri doesn't like the idea of having the same news feeds as the Citadel stations to left and right of her city.

I already know what the biggest problem is... and it's got nothing to to do with News content. It has to do with people who don't care if the online representation of their business looks like a pile of crap.

I'm not even speaking of News content. How about putting up a schedule of your programming? Give On Air Talent a page to post a bio and contact information. How about a map of your listening area. Rates to advertise would be nice too. Gloat about your ratings (if you have any), throw up a few audio clips and pictures too. Something.... ANYTHING! I shouldn't even have to explain this stuff. This isn't 1995. We all know what goes on a radio station website.

However.... if you DO want to talk about News.... How tough is it to put up a single page that the News department can update with brief News stories a couple of times a day. It doesn't have to be any more difficult than updating a Blog!

This stuff isn't all that complex. It just takes someone who can get off their ass for 5 minutes and decide to motivate themselves to do something. I can understand a website being down for a few days or maybe even a week. But months and months of an 'UNDER CONSTRUCTION" Banner? That site isn't under construction. They should replace the sign with one that says "NO CONSTRUCTION!" because It's obvious that nobody is doing ANYTHING!

Isn't WSAR an ABC affilitae? I've heard thier network news on the hour during the day. That could certainly be one source for getting news to update that page.

From Skynet74:

For stations the size of WSAR, and with thier level of resources (or lack of same)......it's probably a big deal if they can update thier NEWSCASTS a couple of times a day, let alone constantly tinkering with a website.

I've come to the conclusion that WSAR's website speaks for itself. To me, it says that they feel they're obligated to have one, but don't really care enough (or have the resources) to do it up right.

You may be right, but it's still a poor reflection on Management. I guess when you have a radio station located in a cesspool of a city, it's only fitting that everything else there looks like sh*t too.

Rockhead...the newscasts are updated every thirty minutes...or, you know, when the news is done. Trust me, it's a busy newsroom, despite the glaring lack of actual reporters. Mostly because one or two people are always doing the job of about six people every single day. Listen to the product and you'll catch on.

As for the website...you're all right. Not having a fully functioning website in 2008 is beyond a farce...it's an absolute joke. Even when the site was "running," it was rarely updated and constantly tagged with "under construction." It only made matters worse when Mike Moran left and the information never changed. From what I understand, the lack of a New Fancy Website was slowed down due to (ahem) some powerful sources beyond anyone at WSAR's control. It's absurd and kept the station in the year 1995, but oh well.

To my knowledge, an actual new, professionally run website is on the way though. And that's not just a "soon" thing either. Within the next few weeks (ironic timing for this whole subject to pop up), a brand spanking new WSAR.com should be fully functional. You know, for those who might care.

So...uh...I guess you could say it's Under Construction!

Damn.

I'll believe it when I see it. I'll stop calling people lazy until at least Halloween. If nothing has changed by then, there will be some major ball busting done by me. :)

Why WHY are you talking about a station that sucks so bad it makes WALE look good??
I worked there. Keri is the weirdest stupidest person Ive EVER known! The station is a DUMP.
Ask most anybody that ESCAPED that place. The word is the same . It sux..

I talk about it because there isn't a Fall River Board. The Boston board would care even less than we do here. That's reason number 1. Reason Number 2 is because even a dump should have some pride in it's product. Maybe this is my little way of trying to make Keri realize that. But I know there is little hope.

It's no secret that she's already been looking for other jobs. I have no loyalty towards her to keep it a secret. She's broken promises to me, she's told staff that she's going to figure out a way to screw with me. I have plenty of reasons not to like her already..... and this is without even having met her. I see her character, I see what she's like...... and it's not pretty.

I was on her Myspace and I attempted to be the nicest person you could imagine to her. She broke her foot, was sick and couldn't leave her house once. I even offered to bring her food because she had none and couldn't make it to the store. This is the nice side of me that I seldom show here. I felt bad for her. I got nothing in return. Not even a thank you for my offer to help.

She promised to send me pics of the new studio and how it has changed since I worked there. Well guess what? Those pics never came no matter how much I asked. Then I offered to help her with voiceover work. She said there was an opening for work, but then later all I heard were excuses. She even told a friend of mine that she wanted his help with designing a website. She blew him off too.

So yeah..... I've seen what she's like and it's sad. So I booted her of my Myspace list because I realized that there is no hope for anything positive between her and I. In my opinion she's just not a very nice person. Sorry Keri, but you arn't.

Skynet, Yea thats her.. She's issues on issues. I'd suggest her to see a professional, but she'd
just LIE to them.. I'm very glad to not work with her anymore.

Damn.

As someone who actually develops web pages on the side, I have no clue why so many radio stations in our area either lack, have out-dated, or just horribly designed web sites. I pay sixty dollars a year for oodles of space and bandwidth I'll never use. It took me 30 seconds to install WordPress, and another half hour to browse through some themes, pick one, and install it. After uploading a logo for the theme/template, I was up and running, and only uploading content there after.

I can understand the limitations on time and money on getting a site up and running. But come on, $75 bucks a year (hosting and domain) along with 30 minutes of configuration - there is NO EXCUSE why any radio station can't have a web site up and running, with at least some semblance of basic information about the station.

Scroll one post above to see the exact point I've been trying to make. It's not that installing a website is difficult. It's that the person in control at the radio station is a lazy ass.

Re: WSAR Under Construction

What will come first?

The construction of the WSAR website or the proposed bridge from Westerly, Rhode Island to Long Island, New York from a few weeks ago?

Anyone want to place bets?

Ohhhhh Kenny! I think you've started it all over again!

Let's see... who's going to comment... I wonder.
