WSB AM/FM TALK, MY STATION OF THE YEAR

Although I will be the first to admit it, my station of the year is one I rarely listen to. It has
no preset on my radio dial and is lucky to get heard (unless the auto radio is in scan mode).

Giving a very strong AM station an even larger simulcast audience on the FM dial was a
stroke of genius for Cox radio. Their bold move became the "talk" of the town in late August.
When WBTS (a successful and popular station) was flipped, many were left holding their breath
and wondering why Cox even chose to do it. All doubts went up in smoke when the new NEWS/
TALK WSB AM/FM jumped into a first place tie in their first ratings book with Atlanta power-
house and radio kingpin WVEE.

Now that the dust has setteled, WSB Talk has moved into a very comfortable 2nd place position
(with eyes focused on reaching the top) and the folks at WSB are all smiles as Santa gave them
an early Chirstmas present this year. He listens to WSB too, you know ;) !

Should they have done this with a rimshot signal, though ???

Cox has an app pending to move WSBB intown.  May be held up due to Cox's ownership of the AJC and WSB-TV.

Found this paragraph in the waiver request interesting considering the format flip:

"Cox’s continued ownership of WBTS(FM) and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution will not increase Cox’s market share in any relevant product market.  Furthermore, WBTS(FM) and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution do not compete in the same demographic market.  For example, WBTS(FM) plays top-forty music and is most popular among teenage girls.  Advertisers do not view WBTS(FM) as an alternative means to reach the readers of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.  Moreover, WBTS(FM) already competes in the Atlanta market.  Granting Cox’s minor change application for WBTS(FM) will not increase media concentration in the already hypercompetitive Atlanta media market."
