WSB-DT Fill-In Translators

I've heard about WSB-DT's digital signal having issues in some areas. Apparently, they've decided to take action to remedy this problem. They've asked to operate low-powered fill-in translators on channel 31 in Athens and channel 46 in Gainesville.

That is a start...but Rome, LaGrange and other fringe areas still may be in the dark.

WSB-DT needs to move to another tower. It sounds like to me the tower site is the problem. WSB-DT is maxed out at 1000kW. They could petition the FCC for more power (they might grant it under the guise of replicating analog coverage), but moving to another tower might be better in the long run.

Obviously...the RF channel will not be an issue. The signal will map to 2-1 and 2-2 regardless.

As I recall, WSB-DT is currently on a side-mounted antenna. They've applied with the FCC to remove the analog 2 antenna and put a new digital 39 antenna on top of the tower, which should help coverage.

about 15 meters

Which to me can't make that much of a difference. It would make more sense to move to Richland or that other candelabra (name slips my mind).

I also wouldn't worry about reaching Lagrange, as I see that as part of the Columbus market.

The 15 meters will make less of a difference than the fact they'll be on a top-mounted antenna rather than a side-mount. Some of these side-mount antennas have strange nulls and other issues which a top-mount antenna may not have.
