WSB DUMPS SAVAGE FOR LOCAL SHOW & RAMSEY

We dropped Savage too recently. I think he's hilarious - and far more original than at least one of the A-list guys - but he doesn't play well in the exurbs IMO.

750's axe is a big hit for TRN and probably even more incentive for, um, Dr. Savage to try to break his contract.

In Clarkesville, GA you only need to attract 10 listeners to your station to get a 20 share.

With the cutback of Herman Cain to 2 hours, sounds like they are hedging their bets on a presidential run by Cain.

It'll be interesting to see how Erickson does instead of the sometimes painful Savage. Savage would be great for WCFO to pick up, but only tape-delayed until the next day so they can run him during the day.

Mr. Savage regularly points out how everything from Dubai to the U.K. revolves around him, so this must be yet another conspiracy to silence the most intelligent and educated talk show host in the world. But, of course, according to him all people with Eastern PHDs are elitist communists, so I guess I'm not supposed to be paying attention to what he says. I'm so confused.

Is he running on "The Rent's Too Damn High" Party"?

It's no secret Cain was being groomed as a potential replacement for Boortz when retirement finally entices him out of the studio. But Cain is not that replacement. He's too boring, he's dull, he's got a one-track show worse even than Hannity or Rush, and frankly Herman is not that far from retirement himself, and now he wants to run for POTUS which will take him off the air at least for a while, and worse if he actually wins. I am not at all convinced he has the radio fire in his veins. He doesn't want the microphone more than steak. He wants to fix the country and he thinks he actually can. WSB is smart not to bet on him.

But if not Cain, then who? Not yet heard Erickson but there's no doubt WSB wants to see if he can get some legs under him.

Ramsey is also a hedge. Clark Howard is also eventually going to retire. Elyse Glink is not bad, but Ramsey is like a preacher with lots of people who fall all over themselves to worship at his, I mean, God's altar. They might even listen to Ramsey at night and pick up ReBoortz. And either way WSB is a big stick at night and Ramsey will be heard even more. Everybody wins. Tithe now.

So in one move, WSB has hedged for both of their main hosts. Well played.

I think Elyse Glink is very knowledgeable and does a good show. She also has the courage to knock down popular but idiotic popular opinion about financial issues.

Yes, Clark Howard (and everyone) will retire ONE day. However, I think that Clark will most likely be around Atlanta radio for MANY more years. I think that it is a safe bet that (the good lord permitting) Clark will still be on the air here in 30 years!!!! Back in the mid-1990`s, folks here were talking about Boortz retiring. Well, he is STILL here, and not going anywhere soon! Hell, even Ludlow Porch is STILL alive and on the air here (even though on small am`s)- But, he is STILL around-LOL!

Clark is relatively young (55, though I didn't think he was that old), so I think he'll stay in radio for quite some. I agree about Elyse Glink. She is good. Isn't she based out of Chicago? Sure, you can do radio from anywhere now, but doing a local Atlanta show from Chicago would seem odd though, unless it were to go national.

BTW, is Royal Marshall still a part of Boortz's show? I think he'd be a really good replacement.

Um, no, Ludlow Porch isn't on the air anymore, as of last September. http://www.funseekers.net/ludlowannouncement/

I do agree, though, that Clark will be doing the show for a long while. He loves it too much and will continue to do it as long as he can make someone some money.

The next GOOD host that WGST accidentally stumbles upon...

I don't think WSB ever realistically thought of Cain as a potential replacement for Boortz. Why? Boortz has no desire to leave and Cain is OLDER than Boortz. Cain just turned 65. Erick Erickson, on the other hand, is 36.

Realistic bettors are putting forth Martha Zoller (Gainesville's WDUN) to replace Boorttz, if and when his ego runs out of steam.

Cain is too much a "one-issue" host. Don't think he could parlay that into a national election camapign and may sorely embarass himself.

No matter what they put on WGST it needs the FM simulcast to stay alive.

What is happening to "Re-Boortz" if Ramsey runs starting at 3:00 AM? It is being cut back to just three hours? Whcih three hours are they going to repeat?

After what I heard Boortz say Friday night I think he should go, and fast. His rant was very toxic. It's time to stop all the hate talk. Those that agree should start calling his sponsors and sharing their concerns.

I would hope this is applicable to both ends of the political talk spectrum. The Congressman from Pennsylvania's comments today sound as though he would llike to outlaw political strategy which emphasizes efforts against specific candidates. Talk about "political correctness."

Oh to be so clever...

NOT!

Didn't Martha Zoller move to (Cox's) WXKT?

It is my understanding and recollection that she did make that move. Again, that signals to me Cox lawyers would have an easier time sliding her into a replacement slot for Boortz.

And Boortz's routines are getting old to me, too. Now that the Libertarian label is not so unique, and that John Linder is out of Congress, The Great One is losing steam. Sure, he still rails against the Democrats (and Republicans) but he is so lame when compared to Limbaugh. He's better than Hannity, I will grant that, and still not as cool as Bill Bennett. But his retreads are getting thin. (Remember the old Gordy Tire commercials on WSB-TV where they put a piece of cellophane tape on a balloon to represent a tire "re-tread" to show how great that worked? Still recall the night a balloon popped in the guy's hand!

SB is running out of steam. Now would be the ideal time for CC to throw it into high gear, get GST an FM voice, and bring back competition.
