WSB heard in Dallas!

Hello there Atlanta!

I recently was fooling around with my tiny transistor radio when I stumbled across WSB 750! We are over 700 miles away, but the 50,000 watt transmitter made the trip!!

Just wanted to let you guys know about the power on your hands! (To bad the big station carries the HAWKS, when it could carry the good teams in the town. Braves.) haha.

Regards from Texas,
CTL

I love scanning my dial for those powerful stations. I pick up WBBM-AM and WGN-AM from Chicago, WSM-AM from Nashville, WABC-AM from New York, and WBT-AM from Charlotte on a regular basis.

Yeah back when they had the Braves I could listen to them in Missouri.
______________
I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day

You also have WBAP 820 ---that comes to Atlanta every night as well.
Edited by BIGSTICK on 09/19/05 01:46 AM.

WSB-AM dropped the Hawks, so all you'd get sportswise is University of Georgia Bulldogs. And at night, lots of syndicated Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, Neal Boortz and Clark Howard .

They are very strong; I was recently in Albuquerque and picked them up, albeit rather poorly, but usable.

When I lived in Dallas, I could pick up WSB almost like a local while driving home from work on Loop 12 at sunset. Later in the evening, 750 would get crowded with other stations.

Now, I'm near Atlanta and can listen to WBAP/820 at night - sometimes stronger than WSB.

Which leads to a question: Approx how many miles away from the WSB xmitter is its groundwave/skywave cancellation area at night?

So do I, Drew!

I've heard WBBM and WGN also. Unfortunately, we are too far away from New York. I've heard Nashville. Also, you have probably gotten WWL 870 New Orleans, which provides unprecedented coverage any time a storm hits. Its great!
What about WOAI 1200 San Antonio? WLW 700 Cincy? (I'm trying to think of a few I've picked up). Oh, and while your at it, try for some Dallas stations. BIGSTICK says yall can hear WBAP 820 at night. Try that, and try KRLD 1080 and KSKY 660, if you're interested.

I don't know what your local stations are, but try those out.
I'll come back and talk to you more about it later.

Oh, THATS GREAT!!
Yes, WBAP is one of the big ones here. Also, incase you're interested, KRLD 1080, and KSKY 660. Try them, and let me know (if you want to).

That's great. My car radios don't work too well, but I do have one in my home that is amazing. Well, The Big BAP is pretty strong. It's funny because that is actually out of Fort Worth, so during storms, its not to easy to hear. How is KRLD 1080 from there?

I can sometimes get KRLD 1080, but never KSKY. I think that KRLD must have a certain pattern

I remember WSB coming in as clear as it comes in Atlanta when I used to live in Memphis. Having no other 750's in Memphis and no other 50kw AM stations helped this situation also.

How

Between many more 1080's in the East and KRLD's nighttime directional pattern to protect them, the station is buried in other signals. I think you start getting it fairly well at night from the AL/MS line westward.

I've only gotten New York once. WLW definitely, and I think I may have heard WWL... never any of the other's you mentioned.
