WSB numbers

I have noticed that the numbers at WSB are slipping. Can anyone explain why? They have a good product. I have checked the numbers of a few other stations Boortz is on and they also are heading downward, yet he is still picking up more stations. Can someone explain?

It may have to do with the guy subbing for Boortz this week until he comes back from the holiday furlow-Herman Cane.

Just curious, what is the pecking order for highest rated dayparts lately? Does anyone have that data? My guess would be right down the line:
1) Morning Show
2) Boortz
3) Clark Howard

Sorry 1360 the radio world moves slower. It's tv that does overnight and movies that do weekend number attendance, but radio is on a lag time in reporting. This released number is a reflection of Nov listening and like all monthly reports is subject to margin of error and the usual Arbitron crap. At least you didn't blame the slip on Krok leaving.
WSB is solid. While most news stations are trending up remember we didn't have major weather issues, political scandals or changes in Iraq in Nov, just Hannity defending Bush, Captn Herb saying 75 is a mess, and Boortz talking about his plane and parties. Kinda like tv now. Radio reruns it seems on content. Or maybe Krok did pull em down. I'd like to see the breakout to. The key here is to note the other news stations did not pull from WSB so it's probably more format, than station.
Maybe the falcon crisis will help for the Dec numbers.

Wasn't there a spike in WSB/talk radio listenership immediatly after 9/11/01? I'm no radio guy but remember watching the ratings in the following months/years and expected to see it drop back down but instead it's been a steady correction over many years. Does that sound like a valid idea?

Herman Cain is remarkably boring, I know that much.

Why can't Royal Marshall fill in?

Are you REALLY Niel Millman? Or another guy posing as Niel Millman? Because you know what they said about the REAL Niel Millman. And if you're NOT the authentic Niel Millman than it wouldn't apply to you, I guess. In that case you wouldn't have to be huh?

WSB is down because news-seekers have too many other places to go. They go to the TV or on-line first thing in the morning. Satellite radio in the car. People want quick headlines and some debate or opinion or humor. WSB is stuck turning round and round on the 80's newswheel. Sangster sitting in his car outside a Norcross housefire? Pleeze. Slade is peerless but pulseless. The good news is that of those people in the Atlanta market who want a news fix - WSB will get 99% of them thanks to CC/Atlanta's suicide. So, they keep printing money at White Columns.

The increased ethnic weighting this year has shaved a little off general market stations as a whole. This year's 7.3 was probably last year's 7.7.

Also, terror attacks in general and the Iraq war, two topics appealing to news/talk listeners, haven't been in the news that much lately. As someone already said, the ratings of news/talk stations have a lot to do with how big the news is at any given time.

Finally, WSB's ratings at night have been really bad this year. It's not that important a daypart but can drag down the station to an extent.

On the bright side at least WGST has been able to pick up some of that lost WSB audience...oh I forgot GST put in another 1.1 in adults.

I think theres a number of stations in Atl that would trade places with their
sales take if they could. Smart people at cox,and they might be poised to pull off
a real coup here soon!

WGKA is so much better to me than both. No nonsense/hype, just solid news and views. Glad to have them around.

I think it has a lot to do with the overall share of the market thinking there is just too much politics. And now they have gone ahead and dumped Krok (which was probably a good decision) but replaced it with Cain (an even worse decision) who is all about politics.

Maybe it's just people are finally getting fed up with right-wing talk....

That sir is blasphemy! How dare you say that so close to our Lord's birthday and on the Sabbath? Right-wing talk is the only acceptable talk that should be on the radio. Go back to smoking your bong pipe you hippie.

The folks in charge at Cox may just stop counting their money from WSB long enough to read some of these hater comments and have a good laugh.

Keep up the good work board ops! Keep programing Atlanta radio in your underpants in front of your computers.
