WSB over the air digital signal BLOWS in the wind

WSB has by far the worst signal in Atlanta. Even the slightest WIND knocks it off for 30 seconds (Stone Mountain area) on OTA reception.....and that's with an amplified antenna. Is it clear in your area? Or is it like watching a shipwreck?

What I Was Told...

When I worked at TV46 (in analog days), I observed that too. The problem is due to the pine needles, being a significant portion of the wavelength, cause reflections in the received signal, as the trees blow in the wind.
Now, in the digital world, the error correction (FEC) in the signal, is supposed to take care of that. BUT, I am aware that certain conditions of transmission CAN exceed what the error correction is capable of correcting, as in satellite transmission feeds.

I just remembered this and I thought I would pass it along.
I remember meeting the Cox Corporate Engineer at an SBE meeting shortly after the new HD channel assignments were announced by the FCC.
It was a dinner meeting at a local restaurant. I don't know how I ended up sitting next to Sterling Davis.
So, I asked him, if he was concerned about the high channel slot his station got. His station went from 2 to 39 . (I thought the V's would always retain a V slot.)
Our station went from 46 to 19, which we thought was a step in the right direction.
And he said, "Well, it's just like anything else, that, over time, with improvements in technology, all channels will be on an equal basis."
So, there you have it. We'll just have to wait.

Didn't WSB get a power increase when they went from 39 to 32 in September 2019? That was supposed to help things.

This is really sad since they are about to be bumped off AT&T cable (2/2) and obviously an outdoor antenna is not a solution.

If they got a power increase then most likely they went with a CP antenna which is suppose to improve things. A circular polarized transmit antenna causes a reflected wave to reverse itself (in polarization) at the receive antenna and cancel out the reflection.
Here's an interesting thread courtesy of AVS forum:

This affects me as well. It sucks because I've rescaned 10 times and the lineup always begins with 5.1. So it completly skips channel 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, etc. My TV is like, NOPE not even gonna try it! Lol Every other channel comes in flawlessly…uuurrgghh! (Lawrenceville-Suwanee area near I-85)
