WSB-TV Cuts John Pruitt's Final Broadcast Off Mid-Sentence for a Commercial

I watched John Pruitt's final broadcast today. There were some great historical footage... and bad plaid jackets a plenty!

Mid-sentence the final tribute was cut off and they went cut directly to a commercial. The final broadcast of John Pruitt ends with a Glenn Burns promo that seemed to be more important than the last few words.

When the computer says it's time to go to a break, it's time to go to a break. I would be willing to bet that channel 2 doesn't have a human being in master control anymore. Most stations don't.

Yep, that's sadly most likely the case. Hard times can be completely unforgiving. I'm sure it wasn't an intentional slight.

Not necessarily hard times, just technology marches on. Saw it coming several years ago when I worked for The Nashville Network. We installed a monster of a hard drive array so we can dump the programs into it and eliminate tape and the Betacart system. Figured it was just a matter of time before a playlist could be created and events could be timed to run like radio automation. If it was at the end of a newscast, I'm sure it had a hard out. Say 56:50. At 56:50 exactly, the next event runs if you are ready for it or not so they can join the network on time at the top of the hour.

Not a slam against John or anything, he just talked a little bit longer than he should and nobody was sitting at the switcher to stop it from taking control. ;)

They had to quickly cut away when John said, "F**k WSB and the train it came in on."
Then he gave the camera a middle finger salute and mooned camera 3. Lol

(just kidding, John was a class act and would never do such a thing) Atlanta will miss him.

Absolutely. I met John once, around the time he went
to 11 Alive, and he's one of the nicest people I've ever
met in the television business. Atlanta newscasts will be poorer
for his non-presence now.

:D Now that I'd like to see on youtube!

I meant hard times as in "hard-timed element." As in, it fires at a hard-time... :15:59:54, come hell or high water. :D

In that case, exactly. I'm sure channel 2 has a hard break to join ABC World News Tonight on time.
