WSB-TV to broadcast high school football games

http://www.wsbtv.com/highschool/24451065/detail.html

WSB-TV will air play-by-play of high school football this year. The games will air live on RTV 2.2 at 7:30 PM on Fridays, and reair on the main WSB-TV signal at 1:00 AM that evening. Zach Klein will call the games.

This will be the first local programming over 2.2. I wonder when WSB-TV will air a 10 PM newscast over 2.2 (which is now 16x9 SD, although RTV programming is 4x3).

I watched RTV 2.2 when it first came on, but their sorry programs lack interest. Plus, they will show the exact same show sometimes 3 or 5 days later.
GOOD CONCEPT...........SORRY SHOWS
local sports and news can only make 2.2 better.

Why don't MORE stations do this? Here in AZ, your coverage of high school sports has 2.5 options:

1. the local cable access channel, and even then it's tilted toward top 5A-I
2. Channel 3's 10pm Friday show (KTVK doesn't air a 10pm news anymore), which has horrible production values and comes off dry
3. The 11:35 high school show on 12, which is much slicker and much higher energy but comes on much later

Everybody loses no matter WHAT you pick.

The Upstate is broadcasting games for the second year on My40, and Charleston is adding a Thursday game of the week as well. High school football is getting very popular on TV.

I'm anxious to see somebody do this in Dallas. South Oak Cliff,
Plano, and maybe Duncanville would be big TV draws, I do believe.

I see Fox 5 is having a Saturday afternoon H.S. football game. Not sure if this is every week or not. Was this always planned or is this a response to WSB?

Modern technology has made broadcasting these games easier than ever before and with sponsors there is a great chance profits can easily be made.

Saturday afternoons are usually reserved for college football, but if 5 & Fox have no contract LOCAL may be the way to go. Sure beats a movie re-run.

I thought Atlanta was a major market! What's next, horseshoe pitching live from Dahlonega?

Atlanta, like Houston and Dallas, is in the South, where football (college and high school) rules as the #1 recreational past-time, so what would you expect? Just because Atlanta is a major market doesn't mean they are going to abandon its southern roots.
