WSB-TV very close to being yanked from DirecTV and U-verse customers...

This is a 2-way street. Yes, WSB-TV needs DIRECTV, but DIRECTV needs WSB. DIRECTV's Atlanta TV homes as a percentage of all TV homes is relatively small. I expect the impasse not to last long.

It's amazing that revenue from "retransmission," the payment by content providers to TV stations, comes close to the money the stations get from advertisers.

One thing consumers might not understand is that cable and satellite companies charge their customers to receive local channels. It's not free. And they don't discount that fee when one of the channels isn't available. In fact, I just received notice that Comcast is increasing my fee to $7 a month. That's about what it was when I had DirecTV. So these retransmission companies are making money by offering this service. This is why the broadcasters feel justified in demanding a portion of that fee. And as some of the commenters point out, you can avoid the fee by cutting the cord and buying an antenna. A lot of people seem to be doing just that. It falls into the category of a "convenience fee."

Dispute settled. As of this morning, WSB was back.
