WSBB, 1230 New Smyna Beach has switched from Adult Standards to 60's - 70's oldies. "They now identify as 1230, The Beach." They have been playing adult standards for many years...

As for Adult Standards, they have informed listeners to tune to their sister station, WROD 1340 in Daytona Beach.

Not surprising at all. Everyone knows the primary reason the WROD folks bought WSBB was to eliminate their prime competitor.

They flipped the wrong station, however. WROD was Daytona's Top 40 station during the 1960s-70s. Would have been cool to bring back the old jingles, slogans, etc.

Maybe they could even find Robert W. Bingo somewhere!

I find that WSBB seems to have a better overall signal, though. There is another 1340 that I sometimes hear under WROD on the coast here in SE Volusia...

I've noticed since Cool 100 was flipped a couple of years ago there's been a proliferation of oldies stations in the region recently, WEUS 810, WINT 1560, WSBH 98.5 and now WSBB 1230. Actually many of the songs from that era were made to be played on AM so it's kinda refreshing to hear them again back on AM...

When I lived down there (1999-2004), I noticed WROD was slightly off frequency. Just enough to cause that awful "hollow" beat noise when mixing with another co-channel station. At first, I thought it was the other station (Clermont) that was off, but then noticed I didn't get the noise when on the east side of Tampa (Clermont mixing with Clearwater.)

WROD is stronger in Daytona because their transmitter is closer, of course. But WSBB is stronger overall. They were perfectly listenable on both my CC Radio and GM Delco car radio at my location in east Orlando.

A couple of years ago, I was listening to 1340 when WROD was off the air, and the 1340 near Charleston SC was booming in, not Clermont...

On another note, WROD sometimes ID's with the slogan, "from Carolina to the Cape." I have picked them up as far north as Brunswick GA rather clearly. Same with WSBB, both have excellent coastal coverage due to the salt water.
