WSBE Learn no longer available

As of today, there is a message on WSBE channel 36.2, which was formerly called WSBE Learn, which says “The LEARN channel is no longer available. Thank you to all our loyal viewers for your support.”

I bet WSBE 36 don't have the viewers that WGBH 2 and WGBX 44 has.
I don't understand why in various cities there is more than one PBS affiliate?

Well this is interesting. The channel has now gone off the air completely. However, Comcast still lists it in their guide. It just goes to nothing.

I've wondered the same thing about WGBX 44. I posted about it in another thread about a year ago. I can't understand the point of it anymore.

However, when I was a kid, I always thought it was GREAT having all those PBS stations. I had a total of 4 on cable. I had the ones listed above, as well as WENH 11 out of New Hampshire. I remember being able to see Sesame Street sometimes up to 8 times a day. But maybe that's just me.

And they have now changed their name to Ocean State Media, after merging with Public Radio. I can actually remember back in 2003 when they first changed their branding to Rhode Island PBS. Prior to that, I think they simply branded as "WSBE Channel 36."
