WSBG and the Bone

WSBG and WWYY took quite a bashing on this board back in late April over the dismisal of Gary Smith and the switch of WSBG/Lite 107. Here is the outcome of the Spring Ratings in Monroe County. Persons 12+, Mon-Sun 6A-Mid, WSBG was #1 with their highest ratings in years, WODE #2, WZZO #3 and the Bone #4, Nassau took three out of the top four spots 12+. WSBG was pretty much #1 in all major demos and scored a 2.2 AQH share in the total Wilkes Barre market again one of their best showings ever (12+ is public domain, source Radio Online.)

In the Lehigh Valley the Bone was #2 Men 18-34 in the month of June and actually beat WZZO Men 25-34 middays in the LV Spring book and was #2 Men 25-34 in all other major dayparts. This happened without a major advertising bliltz, switch of markets (Poconos to LV,) no jocks and a mid book format switch on May 3rd. The Bone had a zero in May and a .1 in April (switched from female Lite.)

Our staffs took a lot of heat and came though big time, they all deserve a lot of credit! We are not done with the Bone and will certainly make WZZO a better radio station in the future.

On a separate note, you guys worry me when you talk positively about the Bone, you're almost always wrong. Keep talking good about WGPA and bad about Nassau it's a good luck thing. Obviously, the listeners vote with their ears not what you guys say on this board.

Kindest Regards,
Rick Musselman

Re: WSBG and the Bone

i never spoke bad of the bone. in fact although i'm not a fan of the format, anything that does better than clear channel is a good thing. best of luck to nassau. i hope the bone is #1 in the 12+ in a few more books.

Re: WSBG and the Bone

Hey Rick,

Glad you're on the board. In your estimation, would an FM sports talk or news/talk station work in the LV?

Re: WSBG and the Bone

Hey Rick,

Congrats on the ratings. Glad you are doing well.

Although I thought the Bone had a great sign on and sounds good, my beef was over Gary's firing more than the direction of WSBG or the then-lite107.

I still believe Gary's loss is not just a loss for Nassau, but a loss for the community as well. His involvement and willingness to support local causes and issues was, truly, legendary.

Changing the music on WSBG was a good move, no question. Although 'White Wedding' has found a new home on the Bone, the balance of the library had run its course. One cannot help but wonder how WSBG would have performed with a simple format change with Gary intact.

Best wishes,

Jeff

Daggone..

What a pompous little speech by Mr. Mussleman..
So big deal, 1 book... Still doesn't indicate how things will bode in the future for these properties. Bottom line is Nassau treats employees like scum, has a horrible rep in the industry, and would sell their own grandma for ratings...
So bloviate all you want on a sub par book.. (Those numbers for the Bone and WSBG are a bit on the deceiving side, since they win Monroe by default)
Bottom line, is Nassau is losing money hand over fist, and these properties will be sold before 2008 is out.. A horrible company, and a good indicator is when a VP comes here to be a cheerleader... Yay Team!!!

Re: WSBG and the Bone

if nassau is such a horrible company, how come their stations are the best?

Re: WSBG and the Bone

Hey Rick - Pat Lincoln is out drinking all day instead of selling!

Re: WSBG and the Bone

Wow! It's amazing that a management person at Nassau has to come on here to sound the cry that "they are the better station". Sounds to me like someone running scared! He pulled this same thing a couple months ago with Frank and Y102. He rah-rahs on here (all of which are twisted lies) and thinks that people really care. Hey Rick, maybe you should tell the truth for once. Wow, HE is gonna make ZZO a better station. I didn't realize he was on the CC payroll. Dude, instead of twisting facts and spending time on a board that listeners don't read, maybe you should be sending out your resume looking for another job, because I don't think you'll have one after next year.

YAY FOR FRANK FM

YAY FOR THE BONE

YAY FOR THE HAWK

HELL YEAH!!!

ok im done...lol

Re: WSBG and the Bone

Yay for stale corporate rock, no imagination and blandness.... Although for the Valley, that goes for everyone... Someone really needs to shake things up down here. The Bone, if you listen to it frequently, you notice a lot of burn on their rotation, I bet they don't have anymore than 450-500 songs in their library, it sounds cool to folks because its new, but I bet in 6 months, folks will be tired of the same ole same ole played to death stuff just like the Hawk and Frank.... The PD is notoriously lazy when it comes to updating the playlists and it will show on the Bone as well, which is unfortunate. The station has alot of potential, but you can see it already getting stale! If they want to keep the momentum going, they will need to keep the rotation fresh, and expand the playlist significantly if they plan on keeping listeners...

Re: WSBG and the Bone

Mr. Sheridan lazy? Naahhhhh. He's just too busy with golf. Once that dies down, he will be back in the office before his usual 12:00pm start time.
