WSBG's Gary in the Morning out over comments

I am available. All I require is a salary of 25-30k. I will deliver a topical show referring to the NY Post for a lot of my material along with various internet sites. I can provide insightful sports commentary about the Phils, Mets, and Yankees. I would hope to have a feamle sidekick. My e-mail is [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from you.

Nassau Broadcasting continues to show they have no clue.... OK, so they automated WVPO and totally pissed off all the locals, that was bad enough, they have IMUS in the friggin morning to replace their morning show, and he is unlistenable. Now the FM jock goes and makes fun of his AM counterpart, and gets canned... Gary was the only link that station had left to the community... He did many hours of Community service at schools, charities etc... For the "Brain trust" at Nassau to let him go was not only stupid, it will pull the plug on any revenues they hope to suck out of the local community. I have already heard from a few of Nassaus current sponsors who said they are pulling their spots immediately. And I'm sure more are to follow. Their revenue was down to start with and to do this, they just basically killed whatever chance they had at profitability. Hey Lou, just sell these losers and get over it, don't pretend like you care. This company has made so many dumb decisions the last year but this one takes the cake. If you knew this market, you would know that this is the death knell of WSBG. Dirty dog shame that these a$$ Clowns at Nassau can let this happen.

I think the problem is that with the decline in station values and now another brilliant decision on their part the value has fallen even further now. So what it comes down to is they can’t afford to sell them but they also can’t afford to keep them.

And those left behind are left to wallow in hell on a daily basis. I don’t envy any of them.

Sell to who? Clear Channel? Perhaps back in the day, but I doubt it now. ;) Who would you like to see take it over?

Actually, I think things started to go downhill when they fired Stewart Brodian in the early 2000s. Amd who was that Roberta woman? She thought she was funny. Sadly, she was not!

This might have been an altogether different outcome had the sale to Access.1 actually gone through last year (almost to the month in fact). I wonder how a minority owned group of stations would have handled this very same situation today?

Inquiring minds want to know...

As far as who would we like to see take over... if we wait a few more months we may find that bankers could be better radio station caretakers than a certain company located in Princeton. A bank would take an interest in getting the business to turn a profit instead of pandering to over-inflated egos. (I like that word pandering – has a certain ring to it…)

Last we heard she was selling woman’s clothing in a Fashion Mall in Maryland.

Okay – I’m kidding. I have no idea where she is. :)

Gentlemen It's My Turn,

I wonder if WSBG was your license would you defend Gary? Easy to say yes when you don't have a license to broadcast. Right Jeff?

Radio stations are licensed by the FCC as public trusts. Over the past eleven years I have defended Gary numerous times, sometimes to my detriment. Gary Smith has previous suspensions for crossing the line. This is not a first. I consider Gary Smith a friend and I hope he still considers me a friend. However, this is not a suspendable situation. Gary fanned the flames of an already tenuous situation with full knowledge of what had already occured with Imus, how stupid. This is where show prep would have helped. I do not believe Imus will survive either.

We will announce a replacement for Gary early next week; Imus will also be removed from WVPO. This will cause Nassau a big loss in revenue as we are doing this in the Spring book. This is not a stunt, this is serious business.

That being said, I have employees who work and live in the Poconos and to them I say hold your head high despite what may be said. We will prevail.

Gary looses his job, splits from his wife and now his Tag Mobile DJ company is like clients don't want him eather. Gees.

I wounder what Stroudsmoor Country Inn is going to do, since he is on the vendor list. This should be very intresting in Monroe County.

I only listen to SBG for weather/school closing, other then that, it back to Sirrus in the Poconos.

Hum, I wounder how much Lou would want to dump SBG & VPO for, since the last deal did not go through. ???

Here is a awesome pic of Gary.

Those that think we will not rebuild WSBG without Gary are sorely mistaken.

What did he do wrong? This is not an FCC matter. Imus really didn't do anything wrong except call innocent people names and he apologized. End of story. In my opinion, your actions are knee-jerk and do nothing but make the situation even more absurd.

What is it about holding an FCC license that makes men irrational? It's a pandemic.

My Friend,

I hear a lot about Freedom of Speech in issue like this. It isn't a freedom of speech issue! Why don't you try it tomorrow? Go into your boss and tell him/her that she/he is a "Natty-haired Ho" and see what reaction you get. Perhaps then you will get it. Yes it is not an FCC violation per say, however it is common sense. Oh by the way it isn't really good business either. I see Imus got canned from MSNBC, that hurts his income, buit I guess he exercised his FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

As a seperate note every seven years all stations are up for license renewal and can be contested by any organization. These types of issues really don't make your public file stand out as in the public interest.

Rick.... Can you please e-mail me if you have current e-mail address for Gary? I used to be the MD at WSBG 10 years ago and enjoyed working with him, and just wanted to drop him an e-mail to wish him well.

Thanks!

Hey Rick!

Looks like you stepped in it again, didn't ya? I wonder if Nassau could do something correctly even if there was only one choice to be made. Your termination of Gary just made your Pocono properties totally irrelevant. Congrats on that.

This really isn't a Gary issue...or an Imus issue. But more one of having a spine and of an appropriate response. Special interest groups with shrill voices are always around, and your response to this particular 'group' only gives them more power. Sure Gary deserved something, maybe a couple of weeks off or the dreaded 'sensitivity' courses. BFD. In the big picture WSBG hasn't seen this much publicity ever. The Nassau response: Kick the golden goose out the door.

I'd like to say that I'm not revelling in your troubles, but I am. Your response to me on this board some time ago evaporated the considerable respect for you that I had held for so long. Ask anyone on that.

Good luck with that rebuilding thing.

Jeff

He was probably overpaid and this was an excuse to fire him.

this is too funny. people of color will call one and other those names. listen to 1/2 of the rap music and it contains hood rat talk like that. the other funny piece is we're talking not a major market fm. i am sure the new yorkers will come to stroudsburg to picket. as rodney king said in the past "why can't we all just get along". it's a shame gary didn't monkey with the xmitter b4 he left as I was once accused of Rick. Too bad fulmer had more $$$ than I had back in the day cause we would have been in court for slander.
