WSB's Kirk Mellish weather substitute

WSB's weather guy, Kirk has been out this week and as is the norm, a Channel 2 meteorologist is filling in, this time Brad Nitz.
I've heard Glenn Burns and David Chandley in the past as well sub for Kirk, but never Karen Minton. Has she ever crossed over to the radio side?

So does Kirk ever fill-in when a Channel 2 person is out? Not on the air but maybe behind the camera, preparing forecasts or whatever to lighten the load? Has he ever done any on-air TV?

Considering she has a face for radio that is surprising.

Hey, I went out of my way to be tactful enough to NOT use the "FFR" phrase in asking about Kirk on TV. Who would you rather watch while eating from your Cheerios in the morning ? ;D

Well I would prefer a sidedish of Jennifer Valdez to go along with my cheerios in the morning.

Regarding Ms. Minton I could not stand to watch her when she was the morning anchor also? She is just on weather these days correct? My dislike for her doesn'tt happen to be necessarily about her looks because not all the anchors are hot or models but what I couldn;t stand was thatbitchy, condescending, bitter look on her face. She is way too unpleasant for my wake-up in the morning newscast.

#sonofanitz is awesome!!! Follow him on Twitter for the best weather coverage during storms!

I was surprised WSB is not mentioning Kirk. Scott Slade used to say, "Filling in for the vacationing Kirk Mellish, here's Channel 2 meteorologist David Chandley." In fact, for the 5-day forecast, Brad Nitz has his own recorded intro.

The reason Karen Minton hasn't filled in is that she is a woman and cannot begin to comprehend how to work the Mellish Meter.

True. She doesn't seem like she would really know her way around one of those thingamajig's mellish has.

Hey Roddy, I noticed that too. Wonder if something is up?

Sometimes on weekends and on some weeks when Kirk can't come in due to being on vacation, Charlie Sill, who typically does afternoon traffic reports for Metro Traffic Control on various radio stations across the Atlanta area, he fills in for Kirk occasionally. Before Charlie Sill became a fill-in, he was working with The Weather Channel Radio Network. In speaking of The Weather Channel, TWC is actually where Karen Minton was before going to Channel 2. She was at TWC on TV during their first year that they had launched back in 1982.

Karen Minton has indeed been on radio. She was the resident meteorologist for the Cox incarnation of the Tom Hughes show on 680 WCNN. Eventually, once we moved into "The New Building" (TM), 680 weather duties were shifted to David Chandley. In any case, Karen is very capable in either medium, and was always great to work with.

With the synergy that is now Cox Media Group. I will now share the fill in duties for Kirk Mellish on AM750 with my colleague Brad Nitz. Kirk has earned his vacation time and Brad and I will cover the radio waves in addition to our Channel 2 responsibilities.

One clarification on an earlier post, the original team on NewsRadio WCNN morning show was Tom Hughes, sports with Steve Holman and I did the weather. It was a great run, and I appreciated my time with two radio legends.

David, thanks for posting. But, as I originally asked, does Kirk return the favor?

We get the tv shifts covered between Glenn, Karen, Brad, and me. Kirk has all he can handle with his radio duties. Also when severe weather is threatening you will hear one of us on our CMG sister FM stations.
