WSBX-AM 1020 is on the Air

bevvy - what my friends call a beverage antenna a very large MW/SW antenna that's got balls.

My dream setup would be an 80 foot tower with a wineguard antenna and motor, a bevvy antenna and an icom receiver for local/dxing.

1050 has a signal down here. before the MW splatter took over, i heard it on my POS ccradio art bell special.

WSBX-AM 1020 Thomasville is finally on the air but thier singal is not that storng as WHGH-AM 840. AM-1020 and AM-840 are both 10,000 watts daytime. I am pretty sure if they still working on thier radio tower to get thier singal out farther.
Any status update? Is the station on full power now? What's it sound like?? Thanks.....

It finally looks like we got the 3 phase power stable. The backup xmitter running up to 5500 watts seems to be holding but the big test will be upon the new tuning crystals arrival and we pop them in to our 10KW Monster. We are days away from that but it will be a major blow torch we hope. We had to replace our copper radials that some over zealous person that had some bright Idea to harvest un beknownst to us were screwing with our signal. A word of advice, Never, Ever Buy a station from someone who is "A Man Of The Cloth" or at leasts convinces you he is "Holier Than Thou", as this should be an immediate red flag, and is your cue to run like hell. This 280k station that was a dump is now reaching a 500K follie!!! I am glad to be an agnostic, and contemplate athiesim is this is "God's Way" everyday, hallelujah and PTL, and of course PTL means Pass The Loot, not Praise the Lord... Amen MO-FO'S , Tallahassee, Get ready to ROCK!!!

Chris,

You mean Mr. Blood is still trying to make $ off that station that's been more or less trashed??!!

..and that has never been a player in the Tallahassee market. It wasn't originally intended to be.

Mark,

I don't believe it's been on for any length of time since 2007. Maybe one short time at low power in 2008. It was damaged by lightning in May of 2007 originally.

Chris Hall is closer to the station, so he may know more of what's going on there.

Thanks, Alan... I read the Craiglist ad soliciting investors. Whomever placed that ad should be very careful regarding state and federal securities laws. Normally anyone soliciting investments using a Private Placement Memorandum can only legally do so if the investors are personally known such as family members or close friends. Aside from family and friends, a secuties registration with the State and the Securities and Exchange Commission is required, even if filing as Exempt Securities registration. In other words the State and the SEC wants to know about the person soliciting the investments.

gawd....I thought we were through talking about this dog months ago.....anybody that sends him $5000 from a Craig's List posting deserves to loose it.

Most likely what will happen is an investigator from either the State or SEC will make contact posing as an "investor". It happens all the time.

No, of course it's not on the air...or anywhere close to being. Tower hasn't even been lit in the last 2 years...so I'm assuming there's no power at the site. Someone sent that link to me today...I thought it was amusing.

Assuming no FM translator is going to become available in Thomasville, what's this station worth? realistically

Not very much as is as the land is worth more than the station license. It does, however, have potential to be a profitable local "mom and pop" operation.

I love the way this ad is worded

..the only station in the market to SERVICE them...

Show of hands..anyone know the term agribusiness types use when the bull...errr...uh...has "relations" with a cow?

sounds like truth in advertising to me

I totally agree. This 1020 AM Thomasville, GA fiasco that seemed to play itself out here on radio-info is a classic... and it's not even over yet! No one could make this stuff up. The station owner's(?) delusion that he had a flame-throwing Tallahassee station, and thus posting his thread for the great crew on the North Florida Radio-info board to follow also helped out the story line (no offense intended GA guys).
We're all still waiting to see what else can happen before the FCC revokes the 1020AM license... or will they???

Well, I would love to add a follow up comment to this thread, but today I have finally received my "cease" order from Woody Nelson...apparently I will be named in a "pending civil litigation"...so, better keep my mouth shut. Cheers.

Woody! I had forgotten his name. We need good ol' Cabo Wabo Woody back on radio-info to entertain learn us. ( I don't need any more pending civil litigation right now either )
BTW, does anyone know who this "Mrs. Blood" is? She sure has an awful scary name... I hope it's an on air alias.
