so wsbx has not been on the air over a year. Is the station for sale or what is going on with it. The fcc data base says it is still on the air if the data base is wrong guess they need to change its status. Someone needs to get this sation back on track and go a full 10,000 watts like it should be and program southern gospel and apply for nite time power. Lets get it back on the legal tarck again

WSBX former WJEP-AM is been Silent for a long time the tower is in bad shape due to bad storms and lighting a few years back and the tower is own by Harris but they dont have the parts to fixed the tower to get it back up and running. I dont know what they are up to this point today as it's 2009-2010.

Despite what the database says, it is silent and has been for quite a while. For all practical purposes
it has been abandoned by the owner(s).

The old Harris MW10 transmitter would have to be replaced.

I have not been to the station since it was still owned by Lifeline, but I'd imagine that it would pretty much
need to be rebuilt from scratch at this point. The transmitter was limping along at partial power at that point, and that was before the lightning strike that basically finished it off for good.

Marty, I agree with you that Southern Gospel could be a good choice for this station if it could be brought back to life.

WSBX is a sad situation indeed. It was a nice facility in its early days in the 1980s.

i agree allen and also i miss radio need to get back in it part time

I built WJEP for Jimmy Keaton (President of Lifeline Ministries) in the 80s. When it was built, it had the best equipment money could buy.....too bad the Harris MW10 is in such disrepair.....it must have been gravely neglected over the years...there are many of those transmitters still on the air (although they are power hogs compared to the newer solid state transmitters. One poster said the "tower" was in bad shape....I think he meant the transmitter.

The last owner didn't help out WSBX's situation either:) I believe he is now somewhere in the pacific Northwest.

When the last owner/pd/janitor/so-called engineer posted on here, I had my bullshi* filter turned up to full blast.

i guess they need a $300,000 fine for not going dark like wmga got years ago

Charlie,

I knew Jimmy Keyton, and WJEP was a good sounding station back in the 80s and into the 90s. The
signal in Tallahassee was quite listenable. I went up to WJEP in the early days, and it was a very well
built station. It was running at 10kw then.

Sometime around '93 they decided to use the Skylight Satellite Network and cleared out the contemporary Christian vinyl music library. I still have it, complete with some of Logan Birdsong's notes on the albums telling the jocks which songs to use.

I don't believe any of the engineers around this area would work for the last owner/pd/janitor/so-called engineer. Hence, the result as it stands now.

Charlie, is that the station located in the double wide we did NRSC measurement on about 15 years ago?
Nice facility if I remember correctly.

I don't think we did an NRSC on WJEP....I think you are thinking about Cairo, GA....but I could be wrong about that too....getting too old...can't remember them details like I used to ;)

Yeah, the cobwebs are growing thick on WJEP. The MW10 is mostly gone...last "owner" stripped it for the copper. From what I understand, he sold off most of the rest of the gear in the building also.

WGRA in Cairo is probably the one in the doublewide you're thinking of...WJEP has a nice building out in the woods.

Such a shame to see this place rot away...hopefully someone with a vision, some business smarts, and some spare cash will come along and get her back going...

Maybe I have the buildings confused. I think we went to both.
Seems like I remember it being "in the woods". If you face the front door, the tower was to the right of the building.
Maybe it had a porch. Ah hell it don't matter anyway.

If I won the lotto I will buy that station and make it like ESPN Radio Nobody care about having ESPN Radio here in north florida area beside Fox Sports Radio.

Cumulus was the last company to try ESPN Radio in Tallahassee. I don't believe it did as well as they had hoped.

Seminole Sports is about all that seems to matter in this neck of the woods.

What an operator.....ad indicates that the station is currently on the air....jeez...notice no pictures of equipment, control rooms, etc...because there are none !! ;)

Yeah, I love how he says it has a staff and is a "cash cow"...nobody has been through those doors in 6 months...and I don't think the property even has electricity. Hasn't been on the air in almost 2 years.

Sounds like a re-run of 97 back in the 80's. And heck, even off the air and no equipment, it is probably a
cash cow compared to many FM stations in the area...it ain't loosin a lot of $$$. It's all in the spin, right?
