WSCL's new antenna

The new antenna for WSCL arrived last week and was assembled on Friday. If weather permits, it will be installed on the tomorrow Monday June 27th. The antenna was optimized, and the pattern looks very good. The old antenna put more vertical power to the to the west, while this antenna shows a similar pattern in all directions. Tower deign and place have improved on the years, and it will be interesting to see how the actual coverage is compared to before. Ducking has been a problem in the past along the coast, and this new antenna should help to fix some of that.

The signal up here in Wilmington has reappeared after only occasionally showing up at low power. i was just listening to All Things Considered about 5pm Wednesday and the signal was clear but not in stereo. It doesn't seem quite as strong as before
but after it not being heard up here since February it is good to hear a signal from Sussex County all day. The other Delmarva signals that make regular appearances up here are 88.3, 98.5, 99.9 and 104.7 but they usually require high humidity. 89.5 is the only one that comes in no matter what the weather is.

They are on the new antenna, but still at reduced power. The engineer wants to do some testing before bring it up to full power. Expect improvements over the next several days. Once at full power they should have a superior signal compared to the old antenna.

I am very impressed with the new antenna. I had to go to New Castle, Delaware yesterday and carried the station all the way with just a little fade out north of the canal. On the way back, I was able to listen to in from the New Castle County Airport south.

The stereo light is back on my receiver for WSCL 24/7 so I'm pleased. I'm still amazed I can receive a clear signal from Seaford at 85 miles away. I can pick up 95.1 and 96.9 from AC all the time which is the next most distant regular signals.
