WSCR about to waste a FOURTH signal?

...first 820, then 1160, then 670, and upcoming 105.9??? When will these chowderheads at Can't Broadcast S*** finally figure out that Sports Talk can't draw flies, let alone listeners?...

For those with HD radios, you might already consider it being wasted on WJMK's subchannel.

Ultamajock, while I do agree with you about the fact that The Score did take over WJJD and WMAQ, and
I really don't see the need to move them to FM. The harsh reality is that CBS is doing this in other markets.

I am not a big sports guy, so I don't listen to much sports talk, so I was not happy when they killed off WJJD, and
then the news format on WMAQ.

The reality is however that WSCR is drawing much more than flies, they are number 1 in the 25-54 men's demo, which
is the most coveted age group for advertisers. I'm not saying that I like that, but it is a fact. The current format on 105.9
is not attracting the audience they had hoped for. I blame CBS for that, because they blew it, by the way they have run
the station. They have brought in Bill Gamble and new on air staff, and have tweaked the music, if it does not gel with
Chicago soon, I'm sure we will be seeing The Score on FM. I don't see it happening until at least the end of this year, or
early in 2011. They are trying to get the "Fresh" brand to take off around the country, and having markets like Chicago
and New York helps with that. IMHO, that is the only reason that Fresh is on in Chicago, I don't really think they care
much about WCFS in Chicago.

If their latest attempt to gain traction and listeners in Chicago works, than they might just leave 105.9 as it is. If the
format does not catch on however, I would expect to see The Score on 105.9. It is also possible that if 104.3 Jack FM
is not doing well, The Score could end up there. Right now I don't see that because Jack is basically an Ipod hooked up
to a transmitter, with no on air personalities and very low overhead. They are also doing well in the 25-54 age group.

I guess only time will tell.

DON'T FORGET THEY KILLED WAIT 820 BEFORE WJJD ' WMAQ ' WJMK ON HD2 NOW A ANOTHER ONE BIT'S THE DUST. HEY DO YOU THINK THE GUY'S AT THE SCORE HAVE SOMETHING ON THE CBS BOSS'S IN NEW YORK????????? :D ;D

Wrong. The original 820 (WPNT by then) had been off the air for a year before The Score debuted on 820 in 1992. The Score didn't kill WPNT. IIRC, it was the sale of the land in Elmhurst that the towers were on that forced them off the air.

WMAQ died because (1) CBS had to dump an AM and 1160 was the most expendable signal, and (2) there was no need for two co-owned all-news stations in Chicago.

Nope. They know the realities of the market. AM is dying of old age - even the 50 kW blowtorches have little-to-no long-term future in their current incarnations. The Score already makes big money, but they can do even better with FM (but not HD). I can see a 670/105.9 simulcast for a few years, though, if the FM prediction does in fact come true. In the next few years, CBS will have to consider the future of WBBM 780 as well, and for the same reason.

Plus, the advantage of being on FM puts them one up on WMVP and WGN. Disney no longer owns an FM in Chicago, and Tribune cannot own one under current rules.
