WSCR off air early this morning

Here in the Chicago area I happened to catch WSCR off the air between 2:25AM & 3AM Nov 1. This gave me a chance to DX 680 since WSCR's IBLOCK normally makes it impossible.
I was looking for KNBR which I haven't heard here in a long time. I didn't hear it. Instead it was WPTF, WMFS, & WCTT mixing in. WPTF was mostly on top. 660 gave me a very strong WFAN which I haven't heard in a long time because I'm too close to WSCR and it's noisemaker. There was another 660 in back of WFAN but I couldn't identify it. The station in Cuba was the only ID I could make on 670, but there was another station way in the background. However, before I had a chance to ID it WSCR came back on.

Sorry I missed this one. I don't ever recall hearing Memphis here on 680, although I did hear it once in the Quad Cities area. For those unfamiliar, that's about 125 air miles west of the Chicago area on the Mississippi River. Although out there....where I lived for a few years in the mid '70s...KNBR was occasionally doable.

Back home in the Chicago area, the most likely catch for me on 680 has been "the little blowtorch" WCTT. Not that it's easy, regular, or common. In fact, I don't think I've ever heard anything on 680 with the 670 iboc on. WFAN can sometimes break through, however, on 660. Not very often, however.

I'm very impressed that you can stay awake till 2:25AM. :)

Down here, if it's not WCTT, it's WPTF. I've heard about five others also.

I still miss WMAQ, Don McNeill's Breakfast Club and Aunt Fanny. Does that date me?

I happened to wake up and turn on the radio and find WSCR off. None of this was planned.
I too remember Don McNeill's Breakfast Club and hearing "Fibber McGee & Mollie" on WMAQ. See you at the "ole folks home" LOL!

Pass the Geritol, gentlemen. I remember McNeill's program, but on WLS in its top 40 days sandwiched between Mort Crowley in morning drive and Jim Dunbar, who took over 10am-noon. IIRC, Henry Cooke was the morning guy on WMAQ for quite a few years leading up to the mid-60s.

(Apologies for the veer....and never mind the Geritol. Instead, make mine a "Spotted Cow"!)

Dear me. It was WLS for me also.

Continuing with the veer I once had a WLS "Silver Dollar Survey Club"card signed by Sam Holman the original host of that show.
Didn't Henry Cooke later host the all night show on WMAQ?
