As I was reading through the FCC web site I noticed that WSDQ, Dunlap and WEPG South Pittsburg were changing owners. I looked up the application to read it and found out that owner Charles Rodgers had a stroke and could not take care of the day to day operations of the stations so he gave them to a long time employee Spencer Travis Hickman. Wow..what a great thing to have been rewarded like that after many years of service. I wonder how many station owners out there now would do the same thing?
The contract mention he is a family friend and longtime station employee and would still run them as local stations to serve the communities.
I remember when Harry Morgan put the Dunlap station on the air back around 1980, it was 500 watter, he called and offered me a position but I did not except. Anyone who new Harry knows he didn't spend money freely. Pay scale or on equipment. I think WSDQ is 5 kw now.
