WSGS 101.1 is back!

Got an email from WSGS asking for a signal report as they just went back to 100KW full class C status. Crystal clear copy south of Indianapolis (with some fading) 207 air miles from downtown Hazard. Check this signal out...it is screaming.

Is WSGS stereo or mono these days?
It's stereo...at least the stereo light is on. That's a departure from history as they've always been in mono, presumably to help minimize the mountain induced multipath.

I've noticed the RDS is displaying call letters and song titles now on 'SGS...that's nice to see. Do they have a new PD or something? I've noticed they seem to be "playing the hits" more lately...songs that are actually on the current chart and all...songs people know. Can't be a bad decision.

WSGS has historically been very behind the times music wise...I just hope they haven't lost the "local flavor" they've long been known for.

I heard a bluegrass show on there the other night...so that's the "local flavor" you're speaking of...right?

To me, I think it's a better idea to play country songs that are well known verses playing country songs that nobody really knows.

WSGS' playlist was unique...I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who didn't recognize much of the music! Probably another small market station that could air Polka between the news, local sports and other staples that people actually listened for. I agree it's a better idea to play the hits...and wish them success.
