WSHY calls move to Lafayette

Artisitic Media Partners has moved the WSHY call letters from Fort Wayne's 106.3 to 1410 in Lafayette.

Is a new format coming to the station or is this simply call letter parking?

Discuss.

All we know is that the last PD of WAZY back in November approached us with an idea to take the station Bustos fed Spanish Mainstream. He wanted our agency to come up with a marketing plan to sell Art on the idea, but he told us to cut it a week later because Art wouldnt spend money on the AM.

I think Spanish would actually do well on the station.

Mexican regional would be a better format for 1410 if a Spanish language format is ever done on the station given the percentage of Mexicans in the Lafayette area. I agree......very smart move if they did it.

That's interesting since there is a WSHW in the market.

Things may get interesting if the Kaspers arent aware of this.

Competeing companies that request calls that closely resemble a more established station in the same market is generally frowned upon. There are exceptions though.

We worked with a station in Illinois who flipped their calls to sound very similar to a station that they competed with. Only one letter was changed. They were forced to change them by their parent company after a couple C and D's were slapped against them.

When the last PD stopped by the office, he wanted us to do a little research. We found that Bustos offers a sat fed program that they could run for 3,500 per year. He would make that and more easily if he would have made the switch. But the PD left for Ohio.
