Anyone besides me think things are suspiciously quiet over at the Oasis building? The Vibe has been on for several weeks now and is chugging along, I guess...but what about BTU? It pretty much sound exactly the same as it did before they were taken over. Plus they don't seem to be doing anything special for the book, etc. Any guesses as to what they're up to??

I am more suspicious over who you are "a1avet" Isn't a1a the main road that runs down the east coast of FLA? Isn't that where Oasis is from? Doesn't Oasis refer to himself in third person...as you have. This is your first post. I think you might be Russ...

Well I don't know that much about Mr. Oasis, actually...and I'm sure there isn't any way that I am going to be able to convince you of that. However, I'm sure you also know that WAOA is a radio station in Melbourne, FL (whose on-air handle is A1A). It is where I got my first part-time job in radio, more than 10 years ago. Thus...a1avet

I can appreciate your suspicion given that Russ has proved to be a pretty controversial character, but...does anyone care to talk about the Country radio scene in Fort Wayne? I'm currently working at a station in the outer area of this market and am interested in any changes that might take place that might be an opportunity for me -- and also in general just to indulge my need for radio gossip...

That's plausible McDeere.

Mitch...

You can't run. They are on to you.

Are you still bashing the titans of the industry...because you are going to do it all in the name of the independant guy.

I've got some disapointing news for you...Russ is no different than the big corporations...he guns down his people on a whim...spins his message...lies to people that he hires...

Why is he doing all this...

come on he is in it for the MONEY!!!!!!

A1A....ha!

McDeere? Mitch? NOW who do you think I am? Russ still? I'm confused.

SHEESH

A1A, if you did work at that legendary station I applaud you: It's a legend.

As for the country "scene" in Fort Wayne it can basically be broken down like this: K105 is Fort Wayne's country station and BTU is just there to be a thorn in their side. Nothing more, nothing less. BTU will never beat K105 unless K starts doing something to make their listeners mad because country listeners die listening to the same station that they always have. Not much of a "scene" when you're talking about country in Fort Wayne or anywhere for that matter.

Country music is alive in Fort Wayne and everywhere around the country right now. #1 format in terms of stations, #1 most listened to format & with Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Rascal Flatts & Carrie Underwood all coming out with new albums, things will continue to be just fine. Whether you want to admit it or not Country music is still America's music!

I agree that's it's going to be a tough road to hoe for these guys...but from what I know about these guys (the Oasis people) they don't do this for their health. They have apparantly decided NOT to change the format of BTU...so they must think they can be a player, right? Or are they just dumb?

I won't disagree with you about country music stations, in fact I fully agree with you and think the country format sounds better than it has in a decade. I was merely debating it from a competative standpoint. It's just been my experience that if a country station has been number one for x number of years it will continue to be because country listeners are the most loyal of any radio listeners.

As you said, the Oasis people don't just do this for their health and I wish them well because Russ does employ good people to run his stations. As you said, however, this will be a tough battle for them.
