WSIX Christmas Music

Does anyone know why WSIX was playing a Christmas song tonight? Was it a joke, or Christmas in July? Just wondering if anyone knew.

Nope. BUT, ages ago a few stations would play Christmas music on a holiday here and there to point up that unsafe driving practices would mean "this is going to be our only chance to wish you a Merry Christmas!"
Probably not the reason, but it certainly has happend before. In fact, one of two played Christmas music the entire day when they did that routine. Startling but maybe effective for a few.
By the way, Merry Christmas to you.

Some stations (oldies/classic hits, usually) will break out a Christmas song if the temperature reaches 100 degrees or so. I'm guessing that it was probably a real scorcher in Middle Tennessee on July 1.

I asked a woman at Cracker Barrel last fall when they started playing Christmas music. Her reply: "In July" I don't know if that was facetious, but it made a good point. And 92.9 isn't too long after that-

i can verify i heard Christmas music in thr Gallatin WalMart in early August last year...and the Christmas decorations were being set out throughout the store...

I remember that Terry Hailey on WENK in Union City would break out "Sleigh Ride" in January and play it then. His reasoning was that the weather in January in UC was more appropriate for "Sleigh Ride" than December had been. And in most years, he would be right!
