WSIX on XM

it's been a couple weeks now since XM added WSIX on channel 161. Do they ever mention XM at all? Every time i've ever heard it since it was added there was absolutely no mention of it. You'd think they would want to advertise it and let people know they can be heard nationally now.

It's pretty much a 'good news-bad news' thing: it's cool to be on XM, butbeing heard nationally doesn't really accomplish much. As with the streaming, the local spots are covered...so no benefit to advertisers. As for contests, only listeners in the local area are eligible to win. Make no mistake...it IS cool to listen to the station anywhere in North America, and cool to take calls on the 800# from all over the country (the call volumes has been higher than I expected) but cool doesn't bring in the $$$.WSIX isn't ignoring XM...

For all of the above-described reasons, being a flagship and on XM is very highly overrated. It's nothing more than being hip and cool, and is often a pain in the arse for the talent to handle it if they have to do extra duties. XM's all the rage, but it's still too new of a media to be viable enough for a terrestrial simulcast to take it seriously.

XM has pretty much buried WSIX way up the dial away from the music channels. They're also not promoting it or any of the channels that they're obligated to carry thanks to Clear Channel. So really, this whole deal is something everyone is pretending doesn't exist, except for the listeners. I'll bet once their deal with Clear Channel terminates, all of their programming will be flushed.

This is a very fluid situation: House now mentions XM several times an hour...XM mentions in sweepers/liners are on the way. As for XM...they have improvedthe audio, and song data now appears on the display. Give this a while longer tosort itself out.

i am an xm subscriber. it is not being ignored. its actually letting people know good radio still exists. even if its coming from clear channel!! :) i know of lots of people that listen to it all over the country. i do except for after midnight..i hate that show!! i also hate big d an bubba. im in baton rouge..double wammy of crappy radio !! ::)

I'm now officially impressed with XM: we did an "all request" weekend(still in progress thru Monday night)...and I took LOTS of calls from XM listeners, including Nova Scotia this morning. Some were Nashville natives out on the road...most were not familiar with the station before hearing it on XM. Iowa, San Antonio, North Carolina, South Carolina, Central PA, Michigan, upstate NY, Florida, New Mexico, SoCal, Minnesota, and Washington State...I was expecting a few calls...not this.
