WSJ: Clay Travis, Buck Sexton are Premiere's choice for the Rush Limbaugh spot.

Just when we thought Premiere had settled on Rush reruns forever, Premiere announces a new direction for the 12n-3pm slot, with "Outkick the Coverage" host Clay Travis and former Rush fill-in Buck Sexton.

All Access: Clay Travis, Buck Sexton To Replace 'The Rush Limbaugh Show' At Premiere Networks

This is the only topic I could find, but on the first day I checked WBT Charlotte when Rush's show wouldn't have been on, "live and local".

I listened to Buck and Travis again today and had the same reaction as I did on Day One. This show is a disaster and Buck Sexton is the biggest loser, IMO.

The show's format is "dueling rants." Travis does a rant and then turns it over to Buck who does a similar rant. The show is simply NOT FUN!

Compare this approach with one of the most enduring dual-host shows currently on the air: John & Ken on KFI. These guys have a CONVERSATION and they sound like they're enjoying each other.

I think Buck is the biggest loser because he relinquished his entertaining solo show to Jessee Kelly who it turns out is equally entertaining and brings a fresh approach to that time slot.

That's my take. I guess time and ratings will tell if I'm correct.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of buzz about Clay and Buck, or Bongino for that matter. Depending on ratings, both may go by the wayside.

My take on this is that Premiere realized they had an almost impossible task of replacing a legend. No one wants to be in that position. So whoever they picked would be a sacrificial lamb, the way David Lee Roth was when he took over for Howard Stern. My view then was Roth would have been a great rock radio host. But that's not what he was. He was trying to be a talk host, and the audience didn't see him that way. I think Clay Travis has that problem. He has no credibility talking politics, or no more credibility than the guy sitting next to you at a bar. He shouldn't be on the radio talking politics because he doesn't bring anything credible to the discussion. So he's under contract, probably for two years, and we'll see if he grows into the position. But so far, he hasn't.

Bongino is still claiming that he will have all the evidence that the election was stolen and that our current national government is illegitimate any minute now. Why does Cumulus allow this on the public airwaves? Yes, they think of it as entertainment but there are plenty of people willing to violently act on it.

Keep in mind the company has already issued a threat to all talk show hosts. They don't care:

They don't respect the law, they don't respect the constitution, and they don't respect our country.

As for qualifications to talk politics: Rush had…what? He was a music DJ, nothing more than that same proverbial guy at the bar. So now someone else is doing it. Maybe it will work, maybe not. But let’s not pretend the former guy entered talk radio with a wealth of expertise. Heck, he left without expertise other than ranting repeatedly about the same thing over and over.

I guess if nothing else, top 40 taught him to "play the hits" which he did.

Him and Mr. Pillow, another Trump conspiracy freak.
Trump could tell his followers the sky is green and Boing would spend hours defending Trump's nonsense.

The way some of these far right reactionary and hate-filled anti-vaxxer hosts are going, to their graves, there may not be many so-called conservative hosts left. They checked their brains at the radio dial.

Do we know how the ratings are yet for Travis & Sexton?

The mid-level guys like Valentine working in markets like Nashville aren't in on the grift but can die being "true believers" The Tucker Carlsons are vaccinated but casting doubt for their fans.

Well youd have to look at the different individual market ratings for their time slot right?

I saw Talkers pegged them at #3 in the ratings behind Hannity and Ramsey but I’m not always sure how accurate Talkers numbers actually are anymore.

Do they base that off of the cumulative ratings from the local markets in which timeslot the show airs or do talkers not make that information public of how they calculate who is the most popular as far as syndicated shows go. I would assume there is people whose job is to do that, that is their main job assignment to tabulate all of that info.

It's the first anniversary of Rush's death. Clay. and Buck didn't take over for a few months.

Audacy went with Dana Loesch as a replacement for Rush in most of their talk markets. I wonder how she’s doing in the slot. I can’t see her going over that great in the southeast, she has a pretty aggressive presentation/personality.
