See the thread below...could former WSJS'er Beth Ann McBride be heading back to her old station for this job?

Just speculation on my part...

I would have thought the suggestion that BA would replace Fenley on-air at SJS to be ridiculous a few days ago, but more and more I'm hearing that's the deal.

Mark my words: She will be a DISASTER!!

I have to agree with Goatboy. With no programming experience, this could be a huge mistake for WSJS. Although, I hear that the GM likes his hands in everyone's pie, so it could be a great move for him. Run the station he wants and let someone else think they are running the show. Just my two-cents worth.

What makes you say that?

>With no programming

Apparently she was PD at a Hot AC station in the massive, gargantuan market of Erie, PA, but I still say she will be awful on the air and the 85-year-olds who covet SJS will HATE her.

...not that Fenley was any prize either.

I am 100 percent sure that Bethanne is taking over the PD Helm.

Expect it and dont fight it. I bet Jim (the apd) is looking for work as we speak....if I was ZTK, I would be talking to him!!!!

Despite the fact that the rumblings here seem to point to Ms. McBride as the new WSJS PD, you might want to check out the recap of Friday's "Don & Mike Show", where they talk to their exiting producer about her new job.

http://www.donandmikewebsite.com/Product/12-02-05-120205.html

The job description they talk about would seem to fit - a program director with on-air duties to be developed later. The location certainly fits - North Carolina.

But look at this line. Does it fit WSJS?

"Ba lets on that her morning show guy now does his show from his house over an ISDN line, and her overnight guy is almost 80 years old."

Does WSJS's Glenn Scott do his show via ISDN from home, and does WSJS even have anyone in the building in overnights? They carry WW1's Lars Larson and Jim Bohannon in overnight, but maybe she's talking about a news person...

Glenn Scott has been doing the show from Asheville for many months...
He sold his home in WS and will retire soon enough. He is truly a
gentleman, a good broadcaster and has helped WSJS from falling off the
cliff the past year, as it's clear that over time WZTK will chip away
at whatever sophisticated talk audience there is in the triad. Once
Glenn packs it in.... just turn off the transmitter and be done with it.

Re: The Asheville Waking Crew...

Yes it is BA. Glenn does his show via isdn. She will start mid dec early jan...mark my words. She will also be doing Finelys show. Again, if I were ZTK, I would be contacting the APD over there. Jim (dont know his last name), but I do know it would be difficult if BA was to come in and have to learn all of those "nuances" by herself. Not trying to be evil...just thinking from the competitions point of view.

I still cant believe no one has caught on that Glenn does his show from his home in Ashville.

all access reports that the BA McBride show starts on 12/27

now, go out and try to sell those fall #s boys and girls, because they have just been NULLIFIED

Saw that as well. I would imagine that the 12/27 date is her start in the building, and that the show will not start on that actual date...maybe January 3rd?

BETH ANN MCBRIDE
GREENSBORO MARKET
WSJS PROGRAM DIRECTOR AND PM DRIVE SHOW HOST

We are excited and very pleased to announce that Beth Ann McBride is returning home as she continues her outstanding broadcasting career.

Beth Ann, following her work as Executive Producer for the Don & Mike Show based in Washington D.C. on Free FM 106.7 WJFK and heard nationally on Westwood One, is both anxious and excited about this “dream opportunity.” As a book-end to the Glenn Scott Show on WSJS, she will follow Laura Ingraham and Rush Limbaugh on this heritage radio station, showcasing one of the strongest programming line-ups in North Carolina. The popular Money Matters Show, heard each Wednesday afternoon with Gib and John, will continue as part of this unique lineup. Beth Ann will provide the Triad with a topical, fun and a compelling variety show.
There will be nothing like it anywhere else.

BA was born in Philadelphia and raised in Winston Salem. She graduated with a BA in Communications from UNC-G. Beth Ann’s many accomplishments include Triad work in broadcasting at WRQK (becoming WKSI…now Simon 98.7), WKZL and in 2002-2003, she worked as a producer and Assistant Continuity Director at 600/1200 WSJS. Other markets Beth Ann worked in are St. Croix USVI; Charlotte, Erie, Buffalo and Raleigh-Durham.

As the Program Director with WRST/Erie, Beth Ann steered Star 104 to the market leader (that is still the case today) and at one point, secured the highest share in that market for any CHR station in the country.

“I guess you can take the girl out of the Triad, but you can’t take the Triad out of the girl.” Said Beth Ann recently. She is a single mom with a beautiful 20 year old daughter, Jennifer and the family dog named Bunnie.

Look for Beth Ann to begin her local broadcasting on 600/1200 WSJS early January 2006. The very popular Sean Hannity Show, which will return exclusively to NewsTalk 1230 WMFR upon Beth Ann’s on-air arrival.

Get ready to “Ride with McBride” in afternoon drive….on the Triad’s News/Talk/Sports leader, 600/1200 WSJS.

At least the 85 year olds loved him. Worked hard. Will take three people to replace him.

I agree. I wonder if any of these self-styled programming experts who've posted some of these comments have half the experience on air or programming that he has! Fenley has decades of broad experience across multiple formats and could talk about ANYTHING. He leaves a serious void...his departure diminishes the business and us all...

Uhhh...that may be the slightest bit dramatic. My best to MF in his future endeavors and Glenn Scott in his upcoming retirement (after April HE'S GONE).

I think not. I meant it as a nod towards his talents -- and also a comment about the direction radio is taking. If an experienced programmer and air talet like Fenley is unceremoneously let go, it certainly indicates that experience and dedication is not what counts in this business -- and that represents a threat to anyone who is a career broadcasters professional -- in other words, it could be you. And it means the overall level of expertise and product will lower -- garbage in, garbage out -- to paraphrase JFK "a sinking tide lowers all ships."
