WSM 117

There is a post on the Sirius Backstage website that WSM will move from channel 111 to 117 when Cosmo debuts on 111. There were rumors here last month that WSM would be off Sirius when Cosmo started (put on 111 to be next to Martha) but there is a notice signed by a WSM promotions person saying WSM will continue. For non-country fans, WSM is different from the other country channels because it blends music from the very old to the currrent traditional sounds, plus has the live Grand Ol Opry and country musician/historian Eddie Stubbs playing 'deep classics' and giving the history of the music. It was a direct simulcast of the Nashville AM station until a few weeks back when they went to a separate feed but by the WSM staff.

Im not a fan of "Separate Feeds" to be honest, and thats whats bothered me about semi-simulcasting on sirius. I like 650 WSM for the fact it has a local feel, with the local ads.Whenever they cut to break, we get a fill of "sirius streamed ads" for junk I dont want to buy. You can blame our friends in the actors unions for not being able to run local/regional spots online anymore.

Re: WSM 117 -- and Sirius Advice

Without yet seeing that Sirius Backstage post, this begs the question of what would happen to 117 Sirius Advice.

I just speculated in my CNBC post that maybe Sirius wouldn't axe anything this time. But this might suggest that someone gave Sirius the advice (play on words intended) to axe that.

As for myself, I have yet to pay any notice at all to Sirius Advice (even when channel-surfing), unless I'm forgetting something. (Could be.) And I admit maybe I'm missing something there.

I don't listen to WSM a lot but I'm glad it's there and, generally speaking, I've liked it or at least thought it was okay when I've heard it. The Grand Ole Opry is a classic and WSM as a radio station isn't far behind. As for myself, while I tend to listen to country only every now and then -- today I usually listen to other genres more, such as various forms of rock and dance -- there have been times in my life when I have been a country listener. (My comments on the Houston radio board about former country radio station KENR might suggest that. KENR was no WSM but it did play a role in my own radio listening history for a few years.) :)

I've always thought WSM added a little something extra to Sirius's lineup and I would be happy to see it continue.

I got Sirius about a month ago specifically for WSM..The week they changed the stream..I returned my equipment..I wanted the REAL WSM..

I believe that all the stations below 100 have no commercials. That's why WSM is linked to the talk-entertainment stations.

I heard a promo that CNBC will move to Channel 129.

Re: WSM 117 It's Official

The WSM website says they will move to channel 117 at 4 am on March 14th.

I guess then Sirius Advice will be cut because I heard the David Lawrence show will move to Sirius Stars Channel 102. Unless if Sirius Advice moves somewhere else and another shpw takes over that timeslot.
