Speaking of Hannity, isn't he friends with a lot of Nashville singers like Sara Evans? Wouldn't he be the most likely to want to come to Nashville? What happened? His NY bias get in the way? I'm just askin.'
Hannity doesn't claim to be non-biased. The national media do. Big difference!

From the mental visions of where you are going with this thread, I think the Supreme Court would have their first real case of true mental OBSCENITY. Wrong on ever level. Talk about ruining radio's mystique.

Regarding the 60 miles thing...most people 60 miles from Nashville are VERY aware of Nashville goings-on.
It may look rural to you, but you better believe the whole region identifies itself with Nashville.
I worked "out of' an office in Nashville for 12 years, so I have some feel for the city and region, I spent many months of my life there.

At first I had some disappointment that the national media seemed to "ignore" the flood with coverage.
Nobody has written a letter to the Tennessean complaining because sadly our audience has grown to NOT expect a lot of local news coverage from radio in Nashville. I have wondered if the flood had hit during the week when stations were staffed up, would it have sounded different. Additionally between staffs not able to get to work, or having clean up to do, there was some internal distractions.
Keep in mind the national media is also dealing with big cutbacks. Every network has downsized. They too are taking limited resources to where the biggest drama is, and it seemed the cable news outlets played the same video (I24 bell road) over and over because that was the "starling" point of grabbing attention.
In hindsight, while all the media flew into Shelbyville to camp outside the home of "that woman who sent her boy back to Russia" I'm rather glad they didn't come live here. As stories get exaggerated and rumors spread I'd rather the whole country not think we fell apart, but rather that they should come visit. Leading company's like HCA continue to make money without tourism but this is a town where we need to sell more records and sell more tickets and serve more convention attendees and we don't need all that attention.
The locals knew thanks to TV and that's the world we live in. Radio had it to loose and they have. Kudos to WTVF whose newsroom had 4 feet of water standing and still delivered strong on air coverage with no excuses.

But you still want them to continue paying taxes, continue hiring local people (who pay taxes), and continue to attract tourism to the area. Right?

Except that they DID have coverage during the flood. Why would tax dollars be used to rebuild? Gaylord has insurance for things like this.
Oh now. Gaylord only has $50 million in insurance. We've already had a member of our fine government call and ask Gaylord how "he" can help. Tax breaks on the way. Granted, they employee a boatload of people, and we need 'em in the scheme of things. This ought to be an interesting debate in the media (and maybe on here.)
The city is losing a lot of convention business to other cities right now. Nashville has invested a ton of money in attracting tourists, and having the biggest hotel in the area shut down isn't good for anyone. A debate isn't very productive where there are lots of people out of work, and lots of city services that depend on Gaylord's tax revenues: Both from them directly and from the people who stay there. Remember that a lot of buildings now exist because of the hotel tax.
I heard they city is losing one quarter of the hotel tax revenue by having the Opryland Hotel/Convention center closed. That is pretty significant when one property makes up 25% of all the hotel tax revenue. The impact of all the conventions that will be going to other cities, combined with lost tax revenue will probably be much more than any handout that the city could give Gaylord to help them rebuild
